Lucky stones and fluffy clouds

Bodhi was given a lucky stone yesterday which is a stone from the beach with a band of quartz all the way through it making a white line. I am still trying to find out why they are considered lucky and if they are a Cape Cod thing. This must be one of the few times that Google is coming up empty! Of course if something is considered lucky, who am I to question. Today had been another fantastic day on the Cape and we headed out to Monomoy Wildlife reserve. We spotted horseshoe crab, hermit crabs, turkey vultures and lots of seabirds (no, I am not a bird watcher, I don’t know who they were). There were lots of pretty clouds too.

Pop

I nearly popped with excitement when I managed to secure my ticket this morning at 11.06am, for the Altitude Summit to be held in New York City in June.  The Alt Summit is a bloggers conference which concentrates on design and lifestyle blogs and bloggers. Tickets went on sale at 11am and yes, I set my alarm, but goodness knows why as I spent all morning watching the clock in butterfly anticipation. I was on the website before 11 and as soon as the ‘registration’ blue button popped up, I clicked. All I got was the spinning wheel of doom. Error message. Error message.  The system crashed twice in the short time I was on there.  Error message. I assume the system was bombarded by equally enthusiastic bloggers ready to stick out our elbows, barge onto the registration system and may the best person win. After a killer 6 minutes, I got the form up. Fill it in quick but accurately I was thinking. I didn’t want to get o the bottom and have been …

Snow days

Second snow day making it a four day weekend! I hope that turns out to be a good thing and not a cabin fever crazy thing. Just in case you ever need a refreshing cup of snow!  It took from about 10am until 3pm to fill the mugs.  They make good snow castles. The snow came yesterday and is hanging around even though we have had none today. The sun has not graced us with it’s presence, so there is not much ice melting going on, more ice forming. We have ended up with a snow pie effect, crusty on the top and soft underneath which rather confused Pablo this morning. The seconds between him taking a step and his paw breaking through the snow pie crust blew his little brain. He even seemed to spread his little paws out as much as possible to make little doggy webbed feet to enable him to walk on the snow. Didn’t work. It was still a case of step – pause – sink – step – pause …

#52lists

List number 5 My workout/run/gym playlist. What is on your playlist? What do you use playlists for? Any absolute must songs? Which song always features? I must say that Marina and the Diamonds is my song of the moment. It makes me want to pirouette, smile and run all at the same time!

Oh, I say!

Well well well, looks like I got me an award!  Whoop! I have been nominated by the lovely http://www.blueribbonfair.wordpress.com for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award and shock, gasp  The Versatile Blogger Award I must (no really, I must, it is in the rules) nominate others for the same awards and it has been an easy and joyous task picking these blogs out! I have to confess when I saw that I had to find 15 deserving blogs, I thought I might have to start digging about.  Absolutely not, all of the blogs I have listed I have read and I enjoy reading them and the photos,  stories,  photographs,  crafts, recipes and general fabulousness contained within each. Some of these bloggers I have met and started to read through participating in the JustB blog school headed up by Pip Lincolne of Meet Me At Mikes.  Without the blog school I am almost certain that I would be posting once a month at the most and my blog would be a wandering mess.  As it is, I …

Ten on the 10th. January 2013

I didn’t think I had a snowball’s chance of getting 10 photos today, unless you fancied a wonderland view of rain, damp, then fog and back to rain, then dark. Fear not! I started off with stuff I am reading and stuff I am making, I snapped the melting giant snowball in the back garden and off I went on a photo extravaganza! Here are January’s ten on the 10th. The last of the snow, in a convenient ball. Itsy Bitsy wire hearts all going to grow into earrings. In a vintage Ponds cream jar we found in the woods last year. Check out my Etsy store for the finished product. Bodhi and I are reading ‘Mr Stink’ and I love it as much as he does! I am listening to ‘State of Wonder’ by Ann Pratchett at the minute, ‘The End of your Life Bookclub’ is jostling for next in line with ‘Grace’ by Grace Coddington. I’m reading ‘Mr Penumbra’s 24 hour bookstore’ and enjoying it no end. Good stuff. My Instagram prints stored …

December 2012 photo a day

Every day I take a photo using the prompts from Fat Mum Slim‘s creative brain.  I am looking forward to having a whole year of them in 2013.  I started doing it late this year, but it is a great daily creative challenge. Day 1. 8 o clock. Opening the advent calendar. Day 2. Peace Day 3. Something you held. Found these gorgeous antique postcards at the weekend. I love to look through them, they are all Italian, British and other European sights. Mainly cathedrals. Day 4. Black and white Day 5. Looking up Day 6. From where you live. I walk through these woods nearly every day from where I live. Day 7. Stars. Trader Joes cookies! Day 8. Someone you love. My boys in a plane, at the Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum at Creve Coeur Airport, St Louis. Day 9. Out and about. I spotted this rain drenched thistle on the way home from the dreaded Walmart! Day 10. Under.  I walked under this decorated but bare tree. Day 11. Sweet. Candy cane …

Merry Merry Merry!

Merry Christmas! We are having a lovely Christmas day and so far over the festive week, we have enjoyed peppermint creams, mince pies, Monkey Bread, trifle, cheese and crackers, Lego building, a whole collection of postcards, festive coffees, gingerbread houses made from Graham crackers and actual gingerbread, peppermint candy canes, jigsaw puzzles, gifts bought in September and completely forgotten about, secret santas and lots of bad Christmas TV. Looking ahead today, we will be walking the dog in freezing temps, roasting a chicken, drizzling lots of gravy, eating fruitcake (maybe with a slice of cheese!), playing some new games, reading some new books, watching some new DVDs, staying in new pajamas and still building new Lego models, all while anticipating some snow tonight.
