On Friday I spotted a little tiny ‘Moving Sale’ sign for Saturday morning.  I made a mental note  which are frankly not to be relied on, I work better with a note written on my hand!  I can’t remember anything, it all has to be written down somewhere… On Saturday, I left a bit earlier so that I could pop into the sale on the way to bootcamp class.  I carry my weights in my backpack, so I grabbed my mat  and off I went to class, via the moving sale. I saw some little glass and ceramic bowls which I like to use to sort beads into when I am choosing colours, the whole box was the deal, so I snagged that.  Then I saw some massive, clear, crystal cut,  acrylic beads in the bottom of a plant saucer, I asked if they were for sale and they were mine! Off I went with my box of bowls and beads, yoga mat and 16lbs of weights!  Thankfully I only got a few awkward steps …

Let’s make jewelry

When I am having a blergh day, I often pull out my beads and make something, anything to get me out of my fug. Allergies have knocked me sideways this week and I feel like laying down and staying there most of the time. Which is frankly inconvenient. So onwards I must go, via the beads. Here they are. I want to make a necklace with this. And a necklace with these. And a wire hoop or heart with these. Let’s go and make stuff! First, let’s check the peas growing in the garden.  Distracted?  Moi?  Little bit.  The sun was shining yesterday and the peas were popping out all over the place.  We decided to leave them to grow a little bit more before grabbing a few to eat.  Hopefully the bunnies will leave them alone. This first picture is the big fat garlic growing nicely.  Hopefully the bulbs look as good as the leaves and stalks.  Can’t wait to dig them up in June and roast our very own garlic. Here are the …

2013 Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal!

Making the jewels for the bead party has been a joy!  The beads sent to me by Christie at Charis Designs are a gorgeous mix of glass, shell and semi precious along with a lovely selection of brass including a brass toggle fastener. This is the Bead Soup I had to play with, it is a beauty! As soon as I opened the butterfly, I wanted to pop it onto a wire wrapped ring and I love the way it has turned out.   You have to love a pretty butterfly which will sit on your hand all day long! The multi bead cluster rings are among my favourite rings to make.  They almost form themselves as I wrap on the beads.  Magic. I couldn’t resist a little cocktail ring with this stunning bead. This necklace was a blast to make, I loved it more and more as I made it.  Like the cluster ring, it almost designed itself as I added the beads and charms.  It is on a twenty inch suede cord so it …

Sunshine, Peas, Cookies and Coffee!

Yesterday was a tired, get nothing done kind of day. A day where I almost put a dirty glass in the freezer to wash it.  I am sure I will find the butter in the cupboard and the Marmite in the fridge!!  You know the kind of day. A pretty useless one. Today however is a different day altogether. I am feeling good, the sun is shining so I am wearing these I did a great class at the gym where I could hardly drink my water and breathe at the same time.  Lots of running, jumping and breathing. In my book that’s a good one!  The down side is walking to Michael’s and Whole Foods glowing red in the face! I  bought this massive crochet hook which is the size of a baseball bat and the brand ‘Crochet Dude’ cracked me up!!  Now I can embark on my maiden crochet project voyage – a nice chunky cowl scraf thingy.  Don’t worry that summer is hurtling towards us, it will probably take me until November …

Ombre Ocean Waiting for Snow.

I have fallen in love with these long long three strand necklaces.  Ever since I made my first one, making notes and measuring thread all the way, I have adored them. That first one took me days to finish.  I am happy I did all the measuring and guideline notes as I usually need to refer to them. I decided to make this one with an ombre look – light going to dark, in a selection of blues on a blue thread.  I always use a gorgeous vintage mother of pearl button to fasten, they are a lovely highlight to the piece and those buttons go with any colour combination I can throw at them. Bead soup, a list and a necklace

I am participating in my first Bead Soup Blog Party this year and so far, it is going rather well. I have a wonderful swapping partner all the way down in sunny Florida and I have received a fabulous mix from her, so thanks to Charis Designs Jewelry for my treasures! I have to use a focal and the clasp, which should not be a problem at all, now I need to get my thinking head on and make some jewels!  Our ‘reveal’  where we have to show (here) what we made is in April, so watch this space. #52lists ‘Messy things I like’.  I am enjoying writing these crazy lists!  This one is the first in my new notebook which I intend filling with writings and lists and cut outs from magazines and lots of interesting stuff until it won’t close properly! Hearts, Owls and Clouds.

I thought today was going to be a non starter. I didn’t go to the gym this morning as I usually do. I had big plans to use the extra time wisely and get a feeling of work well done by 11am. When I got home from school, I wasn’t feeling it, I almost wished I had just gone to the YMCA and done a class to get me started. I thought it would be a treat not to go, but at 8am, I was feeling a little lost. You know, the rabbit in headlights feeling, what to do, where, how? A bit like when I get to the Y and my locker is being used by someone else, a momentary and mild panic, something is wrong, all is not as it should be. It techically isn’t ‘my’ locker of course, just the one I usually use. If I use another, heck, I might not find my non gym clothes, and I have a strict rule about wearing gym clothes outside said gym.  I don’t. …

I want a friend with a cafe and other pressing needs.

As I was reading Meet Me at Mikes by Pip Lincolne, and how Pip was helping her friend out who owns a cafe, I had a huge joyful feeling that I want to be involved with a cafe. I don’t have aspirations to own one, but I would love to be able to help someone with one, not even work for them, just help out as and when.  I can help with recipe ideas and I am a very excellent taste tester.  I can carry, waitress, wash, dry.  Also decorate, paint and choose the music. This came as a very strong feeling and a positive one.  Isn’t it strange how a feeling can overtake you for a moment.  I like it. Now, who do I know who owns or wants to own a cafe?! Maybe we serve these hot chocolates?   I also want to make a random bead necklace for my friend.
