Paint and Ink in my Art Journal.

It is week two in the Season of Dreams from the Get Messy Art Journal community and as well as prompt ideas, we have some great tutorials. I often mix ink and paint, but these pages use two different ideas which I interpreted using  acrylic with ink pen and watercolor with a Micron Pigma pen. The first page was a deliberate attempt to finger paint flower shaped images with acrylic paints and when it dried I went into nearly every ‘flower’ with a nib pen and ink to add lots of flowery detail. I approached the second page quite differently, the base layer is a very loose array of watercolour blobs in a minimal colour choice.  Once the colour dried I looked into the images in front of me and pulled out any creatures I could imagine.  I used the colour and the negative space to find lots of imaginary dream-like beings. When I was splashing colour around the page, I was not at all sure what I would find to draw, if anything at …

‘I like’ Friday, a colouring sheet for you.

I recently drew and printed out some colouring in postcards to send to friends and family across the globe as a little happy mail with bonus colouring if they fancied it. What I hadn’t done, is colour one in myself.  I drew them and traced them and made sure all the lines were where they should be, but I never added any colour.  Until now that is. For the top two cards I used brush pens for the colour and I did some extra drawing and patterns on the yellow card with a Micron pen. Watercolour paints is maybe not the first choice for a coloring page, but these are post cards and printed on card-stock, so they put up with a layer of water colour just fine. …

I Love my New Waterbrush

Are you the type of person who thinks everyone knows how to do something except you?  I am.  And when I do learn I think I am the very last person in the world that knows how to use whatever the new thing is.  So, here I am with this fab new art supply in my life and I want to run about and tell everyone, so here I am, running about, telling you! I bought a waterbrush a couple of months ago as part of a class I had signed up for, but I didn’t end up using it, so it  has sat in my drawer since. Yesterday I started a class at Skillshare called Watercolor Lettering Essentials which solely uses a waterbrush for the projects.  Hurrah I thought as I grabbed the brush, I can use it at last. Well, hurrah indeed, once I had got used to using the brush, I fell in love with it. I think the reason I left it for so long was that I didn’t know how …
