Six Word Saturday

image

I had a go at making some lip balm last week with my friend, we did some experimenting with texture and flavours.  This week we are going to make enough to fill a few tins (these each have a teeny bit inside), just got to decide on flavour combos!  Fun Fun.

Have a wonderful weekend!

‘I Like’ Fridays.

Flowers

This week I have been liking these things.

Choosing a new book to read.  I have finished ‘Everything I Never Told You’ by Celeste Ng and I really liked it and read it in record time – 2 weeks is a very fast read for me. Nothing like the pressure of getting it back to the library with no renewal option! So, now I have ‘The Memory Garden’ by Mary Rickert and ‘Station Eleven’ by Emily St John Mandel to choose between and I am pretty sure there is no renewal on these either, so I had better get started.

Making mince pies with my home made mincemeat using Jamie Oliver’s recipe.  I love mince pies and I only have one pan which makes six at a time.  This is probably for the best, if I made more, I am sure they would disappear just as fast!

Planning and making some new jewelry for Christmassy gifts.

Helping to organise the 4th grade ‘Winter Holiday’ party during which we shall be making cards for classmates, decorating cookies and helping the Endangered Wolf Centre here in St Louis, by collecting supplies they need.

Remembering that it is the last day of school until the new year next Friday!  Lots of Christmas movies and baking to be watched and baked.  Yay!

Reviewing,  I like to make a little review of the year and look forward to the next.  Do you? Here are a couple of lovely ways to do this. Some pertinent questions about 2014 and looking forward from Meet me at Mikes and a whole work book which you can print from the ever fabulous Susannah Conway.  I must admit that I printed the workbook from Susannah last year and when I found it, I had not even filled it in.  Good intentions and all…  This year I have it printed and will complete it!

Happy Weekend!

Through The Lens Thursday #50. Pair.

image

Can you believe we are at week 50 of 2014.  I hope it has been a wonderful year for you.  I am so pleased I found ‘Through The Lens Thursday’ at the beginning of the year and stuck with it.  I now have almost a year of weekly photos taken on my DSLR.

Thanks of course to our fearless leaders, Alison and Greta of Writing Wishing and GFunkified blogs.

This week’s prompt is ‘Pair’ so I couldn’t resist these little baby socks which I had saved in my drawer.

I must admit I struggled with the numbers on my camera today to get the best result in a low light, grey sky environment.  So, we come to the question, is it cheating when you have a less than ideal picture to throw it into Snapseed or Photoshop or Lightroom and mess with it?

I certainly messed with this one! I accidently turned the brightness right up and I liked it.  This photo was edited in Snapseed.

Next week is #51 and the prompt is ‘Loud’.

Through The Lens Thursday #49. Close-Up.

TTLT 49 Close-Up

I pulled a polar bear off the kid’s tree (they have a 2ft one in their bedroom!) and took a close-up of him.

Isn’t he cute!

Next week’s ‘Through The Lens Thursday’ is ‘Pair’.  I can’t believe that the year is nearly over and so is this project, I hope Greta and Alison (TTLT originators) have something else up their sleeves!  No pressure…..

I made a softie teacup and saucer!

image

I read about  Softies for Mirabel a few months ago and decided that I wanted to make a toy to mail over to Australia to help out.   The problem was that I couldn’t decide what to make.  A doll?  An animal?  No, let’s make a mug of tea was my first thought.  This soon evolved in my crafty brain into a cup and saucer set.

How do I make a teacup and saucer I thought.  I planted the idea in my head and let it grow a little bit, made a couple of sketches on random pieces of paper and got started. I am a very ‘trial and error’ soft toy maker, no pattern, just an idea, a pair of scissors and a sewing machine!

The cup had to be fastened to the saucer so they didn’t lose each other, so I made a fabric ribbon and attached it to the cup and the saucer leaving it long enough for tea time play.

The handle on the cup took me an age to turn and stuff, but my trusty knitting needles saved the day and I managed to employ a little bit of patience too which was the main tool I needed!

image

The ‘tea’ is felt fabric and is a little weak in colour for my tea taste, but it was either that or dark brown, so I decided on weak tea!

I am very pleased with my impromptu tea cup and saucer and I hope whoever ends up with it has a lovely time playing with it!

Are you a crafty kind of person?  Do you like to whip up the odd softie whenever the mood takes you?!  Making stuffed ghosts, monsters and plant pots (yes there was a flower in it) is a summer holiday pastime in our house!

Last week was snowy and sunny and cold and warm.  Just as you would expect here in St Louis!

It was my birthday and we went for a hike at Rockwoods Reservation which was lovely in the snow.  We liked it so much that we went again to walk a different trail at the weekend when it was nice and warm.

1.  A new bracelet added to my Etsy shop.  I am have a promotion all this week – 25% off with the code ‘ICY25’, pop over and see if there is anything you fancy!

2.  Steps in the snow.

3.  Swamp in the snow.

4.  Grasses at Rockwoods Reservation.

5.  Some impressive lichen.

6.  Reflections spotted while we were fossil hunting in the creek.

I hope you had a good week and are looking forward to the week ahead.  We have a 10th birthday in our house this week, so I need to think of cake ideas!

That was the last post as part of National Blog Post Month and I wrote a post a day through November!  I am pleased I did it and I found lots of new blogs along the way too.

What I am wearing today.

The snow is almost all gone and the sun is out today, chilly but blue skies.  I’ll take it!

We are almost at the end of National Blog Post Month and I have not missed a day, so proud!

Today I had a little swing on the tyre at the end of the garden and thought I would share a little wintery outfit with you.
