Daily planner practice 2019

I wasn’t going to use a planner for my daily practice this year, so I started in a regular sketchbook.  Part way through January I realized that this was not working, I liked the dates and style of a planner. So after some investigating and deciding I ended up with an ‘EDiT’ daily planner to work in.  To be honest it was a little smaller than I thought it would be (even though I looked at the measurements!), but it turns out I love this size and the paper is like magic, it is so smooth and even though it is quite see through it still holds a little wet media and pens don’t bleed through. For the rest of January (I started on Jan 23rd) I sketched a flower a day with my Micron pen.  When February rolled around I had spotted a couple of collage challenges on the interwebs, so collage was in my mind.  I started sticking down some images and adding a little note which made me smile and I think I …

Daily Moleskine 2018 April Pages

Lots of flowers this past month as I also participated in Creative Bug‘s daily flower challenge with Pam Garrison.  The flowers sit alongside vintage photos, vague figure sketching and a spot of collage. My Moleskine daily planner is filling up nicely and it is lovely to flip through the completed months and see what was going on. I use this planner to test new paint colours or practice a new idea or supply.  It is a no pressure platform to mess about for a day and then turn the page. Some of which I like and some I don’t but whatever the turn out, I always turn the page and carry on. Happy Monday x

A Year of Colour 2018. February.

I am liking this project a lot, I love how just a blob of colour and a couple of words can convey a full day. Some I remember exactly and some not at all! My favorites are ‘Boe the Boa’ because that was the day that the nine foot boa constrictor escaped from the biology lab at school. She was found the same day under the floorboards and the kids got the afternoon off while they searched for her! ‘Favourite’ is a favorite because it is Paynes Grey which is my favourite. Ha. I also like ‘rain clouds’ which is upside down for no reason and ‘raccoon hanging on’ because I saw a raccoon hanging onto a roof and this was the colour and feeling I saw! Onwards to March! A year of colour 2018. January.

I decided that this year I would paint a swatch of colour each day, inspired by an article in The Simple Things magazine and a project by Courtney Cerruti, I cut up some hot press watercolour paper and waited for inspiration to strike! Sometimes inspiration needs dragging onto the page, but I have not missed a day yet and I like that I already have over 30 colour and a little description to accompany each one. Already I look over them and smile at my titles, like when I was wrestling with iMovie and I almost got beaten good and proper, when I was walking through the woods in the golden hour and wondering at the light, and even when we had a burst pipe at the library and had to close for a day.  It is all there in one colour swatch for that day. I wonder what the rest of the year will look like. Happy Thursday x SaveSave

Daily Creating February 2017.

February flew by and I created some kind of artness in my Moleskine Daily Planner every day. I like the ‘anything goes’ feel that the Moleskine still has.  I stick stuff in and sketch, paint and I even machine stitched a page! I also painted every day in my Strathmore sketchbook.  I didn’t land on a theme for February but I soon went right back to using my sumi brush with watered down gouache this time. Onwards and upwards, here comes March! Happy Wednesday x

I decided that two 365 projects would be a fun time, and they are!

At the end of 2016 I decided to buy a ‘large’ 8.25″x 5″ Moleskine daily planner with a bright orange cover and every day of 2017 I would art on that day’s page. The first couple of pages were a bit rubbish, but then I relaxed about the whole thing and painted a tea cup on day three. This planner is my playtime, the place I can experiment and slap colour about with abandon.  I don’t worry that the pages are too thin to hold watercolor or that my favorite pen goes through, because it just means that on the next page I will use collage or start with a layer of acrylic to work on top of. So far I have used watercolor, collage, acrylic, sumi ink, pen, neon, gelli plate and words. I am happy to draw or paint or just make some marks or add some colour.  The day is documented sometimes with a little watercolor sketch, whatever comes to mind. February will continue randomly or I will find a theme, who …

Two 365 Projects for 2017

I may have taken on too much this year in the way of daily challenges (I hope not!), I have started with two projects which are going to be daily for the whole year.  Look how new and skinny these books look now, I can’t wait to show you a picture of them bulging and messy with paint and pen! I am going to be making a daily doodle, pattern, drawing, collage, whatever comes into my head in my daily Moleskine planner/sketchbook.  This is my ‘quick’ daily art.  The pages are quite thin, so I will not be adding too much media but if I decide to go for it, I can just stick some collage onto the following page.  This diary is aiming to be a freeform art project, my playtime if you will. The page may be relevant to the day or not, I may even just write all over some days, let’s see! The second daily 365 challenge is to make a painting or drawing a day.  This book is bigger and …
