Making ‘catseatdogs’ jewels

I made a quick long necklace today on a complete whim.  I pulled out the top/dress I like when the weather is like the inside of an oven with no cakes, and decided I needed a long necklace to wear with it. I have had this sliced up tagua nut set for a while and have never really decided how to use them.  Funny how all of a sudden a design pops into your head and you know exactly how to execute it.  So, I grabbed my leather and tied them on, chose a button and made a fastener with it.  Ta dah! I love these simple necklaces I made last week, they are light to wear and look great together or alone.  I have some similar necklaces which I wear with everything.  They are in my Etsy store if you want to see more photos. I washed up some buttons today which I have had a while, stored in an old cake tin which I think is the storage of choice for vintage buttons. …

Want. Smell. Love.

I want this bag so badly, love love love it!  It is in the new Anthropologie catalogue, but I can’t find it online.  What a bunch of teasers!  It is out of my league anyway, so I will just gaze upon the picture of it. I am loving this summer fragrance. I waft it about generously! It is very light so can be wafted without anyone fainting.  I am not honestly sure what Salt Air should smell like, but this smells light and summery and just like salt air…. I bought these fab items at a sale last week. I use the yellow jug to water my hanging baskets and I just like to look at the colours and pattern on the mat. These are my very favourite bracelets to wear this summer. They are five wood elastic bracelets I got at Buddha and Beads in Cape Cod for $1 each and they are the best. This pile of summer is going to be a lovely bracelet this week. Snacks.  I don’t get my paws …

Make, eat, read, plus bracelet prizes!

Today has been a lovely cool day again with lots of rain which has made my garden happy! I made some ‘Double Coconut Muffins‘ this morning with the addition of mini chocolate chips. I am so happy to be able to switch the oven on without the air conditioning having a nervous breakdown! This is a quite delicious recipe and I recommend it highly, I am even thinking it would work without the coconut, and with blueberries or even more choc chips. What are you reading at the minute? Do you have a list of books to read? I have a Pinterest board full of them! I want to read the new book by Rachel Joyce called ‘Perfect‘, but I am going to have to order it from the UK as I can’t stand to look at the US cover (the rose). It is not published here for ages and I want to read it NOW! Ahem. Yes, I do judge books by their covers, that rose cover looks like a 1980’s sleazy crime novel …

The art of celebrating the small stuff.

I am so happy to be part of the ‘Declaration of You‘ blog tour.  The book is new on the shelves,  looks amazing and I can’t wait to get my grubby little paws on a copy!  “The Declaration of You, published North Light Craft Books and available now, gives readers all the permission they’ve craved to step passionately into their lives, discover how they and their gifts are unique and uncover what they are meant to do! This post is part of The Declaration of You’s Blog Lovin’ Tour, which I’m thrilled to participate in alongside over 200 other creative bloggers. Learn more – and join us! – by clicking here.” I enjoy celebrating the successes of life, my life, your life, their life, big or small.  Sometimes I can celebrate the unsuccessful if another opportunity presents itself instead.  Celebrate the knowledge that somethings just aren’t meant to be your success, because your door is just around the next corner.  A few more steps to your celebration of that achievement. Celebration is a big exciting word, it …

Shell pendants and button bracelets

Remember these beauties?  Found on Chatham beach in Cape Cod, holes and everything. I utilized those handy little natural holes and made some pendants and added a freshwater pearl for a little bit of fancy. I have also made these simple button bracelets which are great all layered up.  I use one fabulous vintage button on leather and let it be. I think I am liking these so much I am going to add them to my Etsy store for sale.  Want one? I found a new funky photo app for the phone, I am still playing around with it, but I do love it.  I used it to make the button bracelet photo.  It is the Rhonna Designs app and it lets you add text and icons and phrases and all sorts of bits and bobs.  There are lots of options and a great colour choice which I think is missing from alot of other apps. Check out the website (that’s the link a few lines up), it is a thing of beauty and …

July ten on the 10th

As usual (it seems!), it is raining on the morning of ten on the 10th. At least it is cooler that way, so no complaints here. Following some thunderous storms in the early hours, it was still raining when we planned to set off to see Despicable Me 2 at the cinema.  So, we grabbed the umberellas, stopped on the way for illegal snacks (how much are cinema sweets?  Too much, I tell you!) and off we went. I got a funny poster picture of a minion from the movie theatre which also fitted today’s photo a day challenge theme which was ‘Smooth’.  He he. Space man toy. My button tin, just some of my vintage buttons which I love to use in jewelry but I am often unwilling to part with them! Button bracelets, made with the aforementioned buttons.  I wear these two, but I am planning to make some to sell, if I can stop myself from claiming them as mine! During the summer, we usually end up at the YMCA pool every …

June 2013 Photo a day

I cannot believe how fast June has zipped by (I am sure I say that every month!).  At the same time, when I look back at the photos from the beginning of the month, they seem so long ago. We have been on holiday to Cape Cod for two whole weeks, then I was back in St Louis for about 10 minutes and I was off to New York for the Alt Summit and a lovely weekend in Brooklyn. It has been hot and cool and wet and stormy. I followed the A Month of… prompts from Just B Australia for most of the month, but by the last week I was back to Fat Mum Slim.  Apparently it is harder to break a habit than I thought!  I do enjoy the FMS prompts though even though they do circle round on a regular basis, but that just makes for a new photo challenge, n’est pas?! Well, here are  my June daily snaps. 1. Tea 2. Story. 3. Fabric 4. Party.  Pie from Marion’s Pie …

catseatdogs goes to New York City

I found some cool books and an intriguing CD at the library. Zakka is a style I have only just heard of, I recognize it, but didn’t know it had a name and books! I am so inspired to bust out the sewing machine and make fabric into lovely stuff. The clothes book has some lovely versatile patterns in it. Clearly I am in need of a good fabric shop. Any recommendations? I am tempted to hit up a few in New York this weekend, but I fear I will not be able to contain myself! Did someone say New York? Guess where I am off today, I know- today! I am the perfectly hysterical mix of excited and nervous. My destination is Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for the Alt Summit design blogging conference. I may well pop with inspiration and ideas by Friday morning! I will be posting photos on Instagram using the hash tag #catseatdogsnyc. My user is @catseatdogsmakes and you can use the link on this page to my Instagram too. Can’t …

Summer jewels

Bracelet I made for my holiday at the seaside. Shell necklace I whipped up from a beach find and some leather cord from a last standing Ben Franklin store. Would you wear a shell? Nothing extra, just a shell on leather. I quite like it although I haven’t worn it….yet.

Wraptastic! New wrap bracelets on Etsy.

I must thank auto spell for wanting to make ‘wraptastic’ into ‘wrap toast’!  I quite like the idea of wrap toast, but not to wear around your wrist. These freshly made bracelets are all in my Etsy shop and love to be worn together and on their own. This purple wrap has a glorious lucite owl as a focal, it is the first time I have used a bold focal on these bracelets and I like the owly friend. All of the bracelets can be worn as necklaces too either short (wrap twice) or as a single strand long necklace. This beachy wrap has pink shells, mother of pearl shells and some pretty czech glass drop beads to add some texture.  I fell in love with the colour of the pink shell (the spiney beads) and I am so happy they work in this bracelet. . This last wrap just wants to be worn day and night, striking turquoise trade beads with wood and shell contrast beads. The perfect mix of casual and stylish. All …
