Ten on the 10th March 2014

A gorgeous Spring day, hurrah! It is amazing how mood boosting a spot of sunshine and warm air is. For ten on the 10th this month, I have all sorts of things to show you!  It has been a lovely sunny and warm day and even though the dastardly clocks went back an hour over the weekend, everyone is in a good mood. Today I have been admiring the flowers I bought last week. Wondering what I should do with the treasures I found at the antiques mall?  I bought a perfume bottle stopper and some chiffon ribbon which by coincidence is the same colour almost exactly as the stopper, so pretty. Pablo has been enjoying the sunshine too.  Chasing his tennis ball up and down the garden! I made and listed a couple of new bracelets, I think they are both beauties!  If you want, click on the image to magically fly over to my Etsy shop. My new notebook and my favourite scarf. The garlic is starting to peek through.  Remember when I …

International Women’s Day

Sunday is International Women’s Day and one of the ‘day’s I like to remember.  I first encountered International Women’s Day while I was in Italy for a while,  and all of the women were given a sprig of Mimosa flowers (as opposed to a swig of Mimosa cocktail) in celebration and to honor the ladies. I couldn’t find Mimosa flowers in Trader Joes today, so I bought some yellow Forsythia and a couple of bunches of daffs. I read a lovely post by City Hippy Farm Girl about International Women’s Day and giving lavender to celebrate the ladies who have inspired her.  I thought I would have a quick run down of the women I know who are fab. Ms C was one of the first people I met when we moved here, she called to us as we passed her house and our boys played cars and we chatted and drank coffee. Mrs K is my mum and amazing.  That’s all. Ms L  inspired me on an almost daily basis to make jewelry, mix …

Weekly photos 9/52

Last week was a little warmer and then little colder, and then it snowed…again.  I had a root canal on Wednesday which instead of being the nightmare I was expecting,  dispelled all of the tooth pain I have been having.  Now I just need to drink lots of water to cleanse my pain killer abused liver. I made two bracelets of similar beads and the pictures above are of one of them.  I ordered some new beads and I am super excited to get them, I nearly bounce out the door to greet the mail lady when I am expecting beads in the post!  Will they come today?  I wonder. The colour of the week was orange which was another hard one to find, check out Andrea and Xanthe‘s blogs for some fab colour inspirations. Suddenly every traffic cone everywhere I go pops into my vision!  No, I did not take a photo of a cone… I did find a cool old truck which is parked locally, so I stalked it and got a couple …

Happy Friday and a late through the lens Thursday.

Yesterday didn’t go so well, nothing terrible happened, it was just a rubbish day and I got nothing of any use done.  In fact I really got nothing done, of use or not. The day started out just fine, but then I took some photos which all turned out so badly I had to delete the lot, I think this was the tipping point, unfortunately this was 8.20am, so the rest of the day stood no chance. I thought I would make something, that usually helps, so out comes the sewing machine and the fabric and the ironing board.  I cut out a scarf, yes a scarf, only the easiest thing to make next to maybe, a napkin.   A rectangle of fabric which according to third grade math, is also known as a ‘special square’.  A special square?  Where does that leave triangles? Rehab? Anyway, it all went wrong, my scissors are so old and abused (paper, I blame the paper) they barely manage fabric any more so even the basic cutting out was …

2/52 Weekly photos 2014

Two weeks and no bevvies for me!  Wooohooo.  I just hope that I will be able to announce two months and keep going through the year.  How are your resolutions going?  I can’t really remember the rest of mine to be honest.  That can’t be a good sign. The snow stayed nearly all week and after a nice downpour has nearly all gone now.   Yay.  The sun is out and temps are almost ‘no coat’ this week. I got some pictures of some frost and snow, sweeties and left over Christmas lights.  All of the photos are taken on the iPhone 4. I made some Harissa paste and used all of these chillies!  I am thinking I just made chilli paste to be honest.  It wasn’t as head blowingly hot as I thought it would be.  Pretty good with some salmon though. Digging out the snow cave.  Snowy seeds looking all pretty.Blackberry coffee cake.  Yums. Sweeties galore.

The jar of positivity

I have seen various themes on this idea, so I decided to give it a whirl in our house for this year. We found a lovely blue vintage Mason and every day we have written a little note of positivity to pop in there. I am not sure we are going to jam in 365 notes, so the notes could get smaller or maybe we will start writing on the back of the existing ones. The idea is to write a teeny note (or you could write a giant ones and just roll them up small!), every day consisting of some positive words.  Something you have done, seen, heard, like, wish.  Or just a word of goodness.  Maybe a mini drawing or two will make it in, I am sure it will.    Anyone can write (or draw) the note as long as one per day goes in.  We are doing well so far, usually a cry of ‘anyone got an idea for the note’ brings a call or two back and we have one …

Resolutions or revolutions

The end of the year, a time to reflect on 2013 and look forward to 2014. What to do, what to make, how to do, how to create? Do you make resolutions?  I do and I write them all down, I think that is so that I can look back the following year and roll my eyes at them. Last year I wrote ‘100 things I want to do in 2013’ in my notebook.  I can see you rolling your eyes, and that’s ok, because I am doing the same thing! I always include the regulars, the mainstays of resolutions and the New Year.  Loose weight, exercise more, eat better.  Then I have my own mainstays which I really really do want to do, but often don’t, like writing more, sketching more, drinking more water (why oh why can I not get my brain to drink more water, how hard can this be?  Too hard for me apparently.)  If you need evidence, look at my post from last year! Here are five of my resolutions …

Project 365 photos 25-31

Into the second month of Project 365 now and I haven’t missed a day yet. Let’s hope I can keep it up.  This week has seen my birthday, Thanksgiving and lots of sunshine!  As usual, these photos are a mix of iPhone 4 and Canon Rebel cameras,  and one from the Polaroid Construction Camera. 25/365 One of my new necklaces for CatsEatDogs, taken on the Canon. 26/365 A sign in a local antiques shop. Taken on the phone. 27/365 We made Christmas cake today and tradition states that everyone who stirs the batter gets to make a wish. Taken with Oggl on the phone. 28/365 Instant photo from one of my new (old) cameras.  This is me with some Thanksgiving veg! 29/365 Squashed seedpod on the bridge this morning.  Taken with the phone and no filters added. 30/365 Missouri Botanical Gardens all set up for the Garden Glow.  We haven’t seen the garden all lit up, but even in the daytime, it is pretty cool.  Taken with the Canon. 31/365 Oranges about to be made …
