Weekly Photos 28/52 and Purple.

Last week was spent mostly swimming and watching the sunflowers start to bloom.  The giant sunflowers have no blooms yet and are over 6 feet tall, the flowers are on the slightly shorter plants.  It is lovely to see how they change every day. We have had hot dogs and s’mores over the fire pit and even some marshmallow roasting over the hob when my youngest told my teen that he is a ‘professional cooker’ as he toasted the marshmallows!  I love it when the kids say daft things to each other and always make a note in the diary! Did you see the full moon on Saturday night?  So cool.  As it rose behind a huge tree the silhouetted leaves made the moon appear to shimmer and sparkle behind them as they gently rustled in the breeze with the moonlight seeping through.  We stood and watched it, mesmerised, the moon was so pretty and we caught it at just the right moment.  I wish I had video to share, but none of my visual …

Weekly Photos 27/52 and Green.

What a lovely week, the weather was so lovely, cool (less than 80 degrees counts) and sunny.  I went to Warped Tour with my 13 year old and we had a great time, the garden is awash with green and tomatoes and flowers and we had a trip out to Shaw Nature Reserve on another delicious cool day. Of course I know we are to expect many days reaching a million degrees, but these pockets of bearable are so worth it.  It means we can get out and about and see what St Louis has to say for itself. This is what is said this week, in photos. 1.  The inflatable schedule at Warped Tour, St Louis 2.  Harvest of garlic and lavender. 3.  The ever growing sunflowers are now 6 feet tall (I measured the tallest). 4.  The Hibiscus flowers are unfurling. 5. Thistles at Shaw Nature Reserve. 6.  The Sod House at Shaw, who doesn’t want grass on the roof!? 7.  Pretty Black Eyed Susie flowers. 8.  A very dry creek, these stepping …

Weekly Photos 26/52 and Pink.

Last week was hot hot and more hot with a couple of storms thrown in.  I had one sick kid for a few days and we managed to Slip n Slide lots.  I dug up some of the garlic and it is looking good, there are some teeny tiny tomatoes growing too. 1.  Pink was the colour to find last week and I almost failed, managed to find a few though.  Part of the Color/Colour Lovers project hosted by Hula Seventy and Xanthe Berkeley. 2.  A rare, almost extinct pay phone.  I wonder if it even works? 3.  Slip n Slide in the sunlight. 4.  You didn’t think I would deprive you of a mushroom shot did you!? 5.  Itsy bitsy pine cones. I hope you had a great week last week and are looking forward to an even better one this week!  I am going to the ‘Vans Warped Tour’ concert on Wednesday with my teen….wish me luck. I will snap a few photos to share!

Weekly Photos 25/52 and Yellow.

Yellow yellow yelow, that is the colour I was looking for last week.  I found some on toys, at the Metro Link station, in a very bee full tree and water balloons (which look green when they are full!).  These photos are part of the Colour/Color project fearlessly headed up by the fabulous Xanthe and Andrea who both take the best photos you ever did see. A week of slip n sliding, water balloons, cool mushrooms and plenty of rain. 1.  Trying out the new netting on his army helmet. 2.  Teeny tree in our neighbourhood catching the afternoon sun. 3.  Slipping and sliding. 4.  The Edamame tee pee is growing well, we even have a few peas. 5.  Red mushroom in the damp after a massive storm. I hope your Monday is going well and have a fab week!

Weekly photos 24/52 and Color/Colour Lovers Red

Second week of the summer and all is well.  The weather is getting hot and humid which means that the water balloons will most likely be deployed this week. The lovely ladies of Hula Seventy and Xanthe Berkeley photography are hosting ‘Color/Colour Lovers’ the summer edition.  I joined in the winter project and it was amazing what you spot when you are looking for a specific colour!  Last week was red and here is what I found.  Of course you can’t have a red challenge and not visit the local fire house!  In fact all of these photos were taken locally. Be sure to pop over the Xanthe and Andrea’s blogs to see their amazing photos.   In other photo news, I snapped a few weekly photos too, which ironically all seem to be beige and green!  Apologies for the mushroom overload, but mama nature has been generous in the cool mushroom department this week. Next week there may be none (and I will be sad), so catch em while you can, that’s what I …

Weekly Photos 22/52

This week has been a hot and steamy one, the future of the St Louis summer.  My plants are loving it though including my newest addition, five little tomato plants which I got from my friend in exchange for some edamame plants.  I love that I can trade veggie plants! Friday was the last day of school for the boys, so that is the end of 3rd and 7th grade.  Almost three months off with no real plans, I wonder what we will get up to?  Are you off for the summer?  Got plans? 1.  Flowers rained off the trees after a storm on Monday. 2.  Delicious Tortas De Aceite. 3.  An early morning shaft of sunshine. 4.  Dewy dandelion clock in the early morning sunshine. 5.  1972 in a local wall. 6.  Juneberries off our tree, maybe heading for a pie?  Or muffins? 7.  Curling garlic scapes. We are looking forward to a week of late starts, Swingball and maybe a trip up the Gateway arch in St Louis.  I hope you have a …

Taking Stock May 2014

Today I have a little list to complete.  Pip at Meet me at Mikes came up with the master list and I have included a blank list at the end of the post, fancy a go? So on this final day of school for my third and seventh graders, here are my thoughts in list form.  I love a list don’t you? Making : Frothy coffee. Cooking : Roast cauliflower and lentil curry seems to be my go-to meal of the moment. Drinking : More water, need to drink more water. Reading:  The Goldfinch. Still. It is taking me ages, nearly finished though. Wanting:  Activity ideas for the summer break. Looking: At the pile of magazines I need to read. Playing:  Catch in the back garden and trying not to destroy any sunflowers with stray throws! Deciding: What to do over the summer… Wishing:  For some rain on the garden. Enjoying:  Snow cones on a hot day. Waiting:  To meet the kids at lunchtime as their last day at school is a half day. Liking: …

My Favourite Things

I am participating in a super fab blog course called ‘Blog with Pip‘ which is taught and supported by Pip Lincolne of the Australian blog ‘Meet me at Mikes‘. Along with the other students I am joining in a group post called ‘My Favourite Things’. If you pop over to Pip’s post, the rest are at the end, along with mine! So, My Favourite Things are? Well, all sorts really, want to see? Okay here we go. Vintage anything, my latest find was this 1970’s wrap skirt.  It is floor length and I love it! Being able to go into the garden and grab the herbs I need for those nachos or that pasta dish.  Growing things, especially food, is the best. Reading aloud to my youngest son, I am aware that he soon won’t want me to read to him so I am hanging onto this for as long as I can.  At the moment we are reading ‘Itch’ by Simon Mayo and it is very good, very exciting and suspenseful. Taking photos, even …
