This has been a week of art and printing and colour!  Just how I like it. It has also been a week of homegrown tomatoes, once they are ripe they need eating, so tomatoes have been popping up in salads, pizza and sauce all week! 1. My first beefsteak tomato which went on a pizza! 2. I thought this van looked like the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine. 3. My first foray into printing this week, I started with a roller print and ended up with gelli plate prints too.  I printed onto lots of paper including this vintage music. 4. Dusk at the end of a dog walk and Pokemon hunt. 5. There are lots of mushrooms in the woods and I liked these star shaped fungi. 6. We had all the weather including a massive storm which we had to wait out in Starbucks, but we were rewarded with this ace rainbow as we walked home. 7. More printing, this time with the gelli plate and some dried honesty seeds. It has been a …

1.We spotted this guy as we walked to school through the woods.  I love the pattern on his shell. 2.More gelli plate goodness using grasses from my back garden. I printed on regular paper, old book pages and deli paper. 3&4. I went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens with some friends and we managed to catch the beauty before a massive storm marched through. 5. This weekend my youngest and I went for a paddle in the creek.  The water was very shallow so we managed to get further than we usually walk.  We found some old  shards of pots and a fossil or two. 6. We now have a 15 year old and I made some cupcakes with orange butter cream. 7. And I made some confetti cookies using a wonderful recipe from Smitten Kitchen. It was super easy and they look and taste fabulous!  Perfect for a teen birthday. I had a good week and I hope you did too. I am still processing the Blog Conference I attended over the weekend …

‘I Like’ Friday. Get Messy Season of Lists Week 6.

I thought I was avoiding the prompts this week and then I realized that I had inadvertently incorporated the ‘write the list outside’ prompt very vaguely in the top page.  The prints are made with leaves, gathered from outside. Ta-dah! The list prompts have made for a challenging Get Messy season for me to be honest.  I don’t often incorporate writing in my pages with much success, but I wanted to give it a go. This week I decided to use the prompts not as a list but as a single sentence or idea, is one item classed as a list?  A single item list?  I think not. I do enjoy writing using a Sumi brush (Home is..) but it often takes a few run ups to get it right.  The thing is when you are working over a prepared background and it goes wrong, it is a ‘start again’ situation.  My first go at this page saw me miscalculating the word ‘paintbrushes’ and I ended up squishing it all up by the time I …

Get Messy Art Journal ‘Happy’ Season.

The weather today is pretty grey but I like to think of this page as grey sparkle rather than dull weather grey. As I splattered the background I managed to cover myself in black ink as well as the page and the floor.  Don’t worry I did the splatting outside! I did have a very nice time with my gelli plate and some pages from an old dictionary.  I used a used gift card and feathers as texture creators in the paint. I mixed some paints, but stuck to the grey theme. I also did some prints using dry deli paper for a lovely see through effect when I stick  them on my final page. It really is wonderful how many effects can be created using lots of different techniques and tools.  I am so pleased with the gelli prints on this page. All of this journal fun was inspired by the week six prompts over at the Get Messy Art Journal website. The idea was to cover the background with the same colour, so I chose …

Weekly Photos 2/52

I got a Gelli plate for Christmas and I got it out to play with this week. I tried cutting out triangles and masking off trees or mountains (depending what you see!). I used card stock, printer paper and wax deli paper and they all worked well but gave slightly different results in many good ways. I planted some seeds this week and snapped some polaroids. We went to the Ice Carnival in the Delmar Loop this weekend and spotted these magnificent lions as we walked down to the Carnival.  They are guarding City Hall and doing a fine job. Spotted at the Scientology Church on Delmar.  What if you don’t pass?  No personality?  Yikes. How was your week?  I hope it was lovely. Happy Monday!
