Weekly photos 10/52 and Living Arrows

I am a day late with the weekly round up this week because yesterday was ‘Ten on the 10th’ day.  Never fear though, here is the weekly collective from last week.  It snowed on Monday and we had a snow day off school which is so strange to think about now we are looking at near 80 degrees today.  All seasons in one week! Blue was the colour of the week  and it was the last in the #colorcolour series.  Here is my Blue selection. I made pretzel rolls to have with hot dogs for dinner which were a hit and fun to make.  I used the A Beautiful Mess recipe which I have used a few times and it has not failed me yet. The school art show was this week too and I got a little photo of Mr Y’s ‘Inside my Head’ piece. I went into St Louis for a class headed up by the lovely Lindsay of Heartland Underdog, met some lovely local bloggers and got some snaps of some city …

Weekly photos 9/52

Last week was a little warmer and then little colder, and then it snowed…again.  I had a root canal on Wednesday which instead of being the nightmare I was expecting,  dispelled all of the tooth pain I have been having.  Now I just need to drink lots of water to cleanse my pain killer abused liver. I made two bracelets of similar beads and the pictures above are of one of them.  I ordered some new beads and I am super excited to get them, I nearly bounce out the door to greet the mail lady when I am expecting beads in the post!  Will they come today?  I wonder. The colour of the week was orange which was another hard one to find, check out Andrea and Xanthe‘s blogs for some fab colour inspirations. Suddenly every traffic cone everywhere I go pops into my vision!  No, I did not take a photo of a cone… I did find a cool old truck which is parked locally, so I stalked it and got a couple …

1/52 Weekly photos 2014

I can’t believe that last Monday was still 2013.   As usual time is zipping by and I am just about keeping up. This week we saw New Year, I stopped drinking FOR A YEAR (ha, we’ll see), we started a ‘Positive jar’ which we put a teeny note in every day with something positive on it, so that we can open it in a year and enjoy all the notes and it snowed – lots. All of these photos were taken on the iphone 4.  Some with filters from Camera+, some taken with Oggl and some straight out of the camera, no filter. Forest Park on New Year’s Eve was icy and all blue skies, a pretty end to the year.  Frozen leaves in the ponds and a little scrap of a rainbow over the bandstand. We ended up with about 12 inches of snow by the time it stopped snowing yesterday.  We went out in the morning, but by the afternoon it was frozen nose time, so we didn’t bother!

Weekly Photos

32/365 While I was spraying a branch gold for my pom pom advent calendar, I also accidentally sprayed these leaves. They turned out quite pretty! 33/365 It is amazing to think that only a week ago, the temperatures were in the 60’s and 70’s. Now we have a layer of snow and icy sidewalks. I took advantage of the warm days and planted my garlic. 34/365 On Wednesday I was the mystery reader at school, the kids had to guess who was reading by listening to five clues. I read ‘Little Santa’ by Jon Agee. As I was waiting, I snapped this cute decoration. 35/365 Then we got snow! I did spot this little heart as I walked to the gym though. 36/365 Mr.Y’s birthday was today, so I made him an Army guy cake! 37/365 Christmas decorations are starting to emerge in our house. This little tree usually gets decorated by the boys and goes in their room. 38/365 Birthday boy wanted to go the the Transport Museum, so off we went in the …

Project 365 photos 25-31

Into the second month of Project 365 now and I haven’t missed a day yet. Let’s hope I can keep it up.  This week has seen my birthday, Thanksgiving and lots of sunshine!  As usual, these photos are a mix of iPhone 4 and Canon Rebel cameras,  and one from the Polaroid Construction Camera. 25/365 One of my new necklaces for CatsEatDogs, taken on the Canon. 26/365 A sign in a local antiques shop. Taken on the phone. 27/365 We made Christmas cake today and tradition states that everyone who stirs the batter gets to make a wish. Taken with Oggl on the phone. 28/365 Instant photo from one of my new (old) cameras.  This is me with some Thanksgiving veg! 29/365 Squashed seedpod on the bridge this morning.  Taken with the phone and no filters added. 30/365 Missouri Botanical Gardens all set up for the Garden Glow.  We haven’t seen the garden all lit up, but even in the daytime, it is pretty cool.  Taken with the Canon. 31/365 Oranges about to be made …

Shop locally Eye candy Boutique

Small business Saturday is next week and I for one love to shop locally and small.  I count myself lucky that we can shop at local farmers markets, get bakery treats and coffee from small businesses locally and shop for fabulous things to wear at one of my favourites local businesses – Eye Candy Boutique. They are open every week, one or more days and are always happy to make appointments if you can’t make the opening hours. Check their website or facebook page and sign up for e mails to be kept up to date. I have to confess it took me a while to catch onto this little local treasure as I often walked past and saw the Eye Candy sign and wondered what it was all about. When I did go, I was not disappointed, Eye Candy has an ever changing array of fashion from accessories to cocktail dresses. Whether you are looking for jeans and a casual shirt or a full on dazzling outfit, this is the place to be. The …

Project 365 Photos 4-10

4/365 5/365 6/365 7/365 8/365 9/365 10/365 Ten photos done, only 355 to go!  Still sounds a lot, even to a shutterbug such as myself!  Some days I hardly get a shot at all and some days I can’t decide which to use.  Yesterday (10/365) was a decision day.  It was such a beautiful day I think I could have pointed my camera in any direction and got a lovely shot.  I posted more from the day as part of my regular Ten on the 10th post. Are you doing the Project 365 challenge?  How is it going?  I am happy to be using my Canon Rebel on manual for some of the photos I am posting and quite proud of myself!  Some will always come from the iPhone 4 just because it is often all I have with me.  The frosty leaf for 8/365 is a perfect example of this, by the time I had gone to fetch my camera the frost would have melted and I am not sure I could have got …

Strange Donuts and St Louis Photos

Yesterday,  it was the Labor Day holiday here in the States and a local soon to open donut shop showed off it’s nearly finished doors to usher in their latest creation.  In true St Louis style they made the Gooey Butter Donut as an homage to the traditional specialty of these parts the Gooey Butter Cake. They were very good, my boys inhaled ours in a few minutes flat.  I was quite happy that they were not the ‘size of your head’ donut which seems rather popular around here at the minute.  They were normal in size and wonderful in flavour. Nice one Strange Donuts and long may you continue to keep us strange.  I am secretly pleased that the shop is a good mile away from us here in Brentwood.   By the time I have walked over to Maplewood, I will have earnt my donut! I love how the interior is looking and can’t wait to see it all finished and open.  Good Luck Strange Donuts! Remember when we went to the …

Chocolate chocolate chocolate

Really, that is what the place is called! Yesterday we visited the Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate factory in The Hill area of St Louis. It was an adventure as I don’t drive, but it turned out to be an easy peasy and successful one. I am pretty well versed on the public transit of St Louis (yes, there is an app for that!), so we caught the bus at the end of our street and off we went. The bus stop at the other end was about half a mile away from the factory, so we turned the corner and walked down South Kingshighway (sounds posh, isn’t), crossed the bridge and we were there. See, easy! < We had a lovely morning in this little chocolate factory, samples and smells and a good time! Didn’t see any Oompa Loompas though, bit disappointing. We did get to see huge slabs of caramel and vats of chocolate all around. So, that was the last day of school, all back this morning bright and breezy. Perfect morning for a …
