Weekly Photos 2017. 10/52

1. Look up.  A bare tree on the trail.  In no time it will be full of leaves. 2. Our little Star Magnolia tree flowered very early. 3. I found some flowers while walking the dog and popped them in a jar of water. 4. I made a mini journal this week and filled it in one day! 5. Looking up at the old firehouse steps. 6. Snowy woods following the very small amount of snow we had all been preparing for! 7. Snow and tree rings. 8. I was dragged out bottle hunting and we scored a haul!  Some are from the 1930’s and 50’s.  I find it amazing that these bottles have been buried for so many years. Happy Spring Break and Happy Monday x

  1. I kept the magnolia branch from last week and the flowers are so pretty. 2. The seeds are starting to grow, most of the tomato plants have started to grow and the cucumbers are peeking through. 3 & 4. I used bubble wrap with the gelli plate and it was super fun and messy!  I loved the results and can’t wait to use them in my art journals. 5. I scored a box of stamps at an estate sale this weekend, now I just need to persuade myself to use them in my journals. 6. These vintage stencils came from the same sale.  I will work into this page some more, I just wanted to use the stencils and see what all the letters looked like! Happy Monday x

1 – 2. Presidents Day was a sunny warm day and we went for a jaunt around Forest Park (along with the rest of St Louis!). 3. Following the strangely warm weather, the apricot tree was in full bloom by mid-week, unfortunately the warm spell was followed by a couple of nights of freezing temperatures, so the flowers are looking a little droopy, but hopefully they will hang on and we will see some fruit. 4 – 5. I met some friends for coffee at Rise coffee and we chatted and drank coffee with a pretty design in the frothy milk! 6 – 8. It was estate sale treasure hunting time on Saturday morning, I didn’t buy the giraffe or the amazing rainbow art (someone had bought that already), but I did get a few bits and bobs.  I usually look for paper I can print or draw on or books I can use as journals, so I found a few books and some old typing paper with a lovely texture. 9. These are some …

1. This fungi/ lichen growth on a fallen tree looks ancient! 2. We have been digging for vintage bottles and jars again. In this lot there is a Listerine bottle, a deodorant cream jar and a beauty cream jar.  White milk glass is my favorite, even when it is covered in mud! 3. I have been messing about in my art journal and on old book pages this week. 4. A Metro Link transit advert. 5. I didn’t have time to drink my tea before the gym this weekend, so of course I took it with me! Happy Monday x

I saw this rather old jar sticking out of the creek bed as I walked through the woods this week. I wonder what was in it all those years ago? We spotted this bright lichen on a dog walk this week. Matching funghi. I photo’d this church against the city scape with a view to drawing it, I haven’t sketched it yet, but I will (honest). It has not been super cold this week but this ice was impressive. This bark which has dried out off the tree looks like paper in a very thick book. We found this jar in the mud, it contained beauty cream in the 1930’s and there it was, intact but missing the lid which I suppose had disintegrated over eighty years. I hope you had a lovely week, we found lots of stuff which is always an exciting time in our house! Happy Monday x

1. I saw these flowers in the park looking pretty!  I have no idea where they are from or why they are on the tree though. Isn’t it funny what just pops up! 2. This white building is one I pass all the time, I don’t know what it houses but I like the corrugated exterior. 3. This weekend was the second birthday of my friend’s gym – Core 3  Fitness and these were some of the flowers at the celebrations. 4. It was a super windy day and I saw this amazing dry Queen Anne’s Lace flower which was bobbing about in the breeze.  I can’t believe I ended up with a focused picture! 5.- 10. Missouri Mines State Historic Site is a fabulously creepy place to visit!  It is a disused lead mine which closed in the 1970’s.  The underground mine is totally flooded  but the buildings remain and the old powerhouse is now a museum. It would be a perfect place for a zombie party!!! Hope you had a good week!  Happy Monday …

1. We went to Route 66 State Park this weekend and explored in the sunshine! 2. A naturally formed terrarium in an old bottle. 3. Yay for sunshine over the fields. 4. I climbed out of bed early on Saturday to go to a local estate sale and scored this ace tin of buttons and buckles. 5. I also bought a whole fabulous box of vintage travel ‘accordion’ postcards from the same sale.  I bought them to draw and paint on, but I am not sure I can bring myself to! 6 & 7. Two sides of the same painting at the St Louis Art Museum, I love the two colour palettes. 8. One of my favourite paintings at the Art Museum, cakes by Wayne Thiebaud. Happy Monday x

I have been playing with the gelli plate and dried seeds this week to make some patterns and images to use in journal pages. 4. Blue skies for our New Year’s Day hike at Route 66 State Park. 5. We were looking for old bottles and found all of these shovels. 6. Railway bridge over the Meramec river. 7. Shadow family. 8. Pond, trees and reflections. Well, that was 2016 and here is 2017.  I hope it is a wonderful year for all of us, I am going to try and be regularly creative and record my journey here on the blog. Happy Monday x

Here are some snaps from the past Christmassy week. 1. The piccalilli (Jamie Oliver Magazine) recipe worked a treat and it is delicious! 2. We got a little bit of snow and some freezing cold. 3-5. Laumeier Sculpture Park. here in St Louis. 6. After three goes at honeycomb toffee, I finally hit success! 7. Grass and water at Forest Park. 8. Monkey bread for Christmas morning breakfast.
