I came across a box of digital watches today, so I snapped a few of them. I don’t think I ever had one, but I think my brother did. I like the look of the middle one, a computer from the 1980’s on your wrist!

I have been taking part in Through the Lens Thursday this year which is a project to improve our skills at using a DSLR camera on manual mode rather than auto. It has been a wonderful experience so far and I am learning so much as well as seeing improved photos.

Every week there is a prompt to inspire our photos and this week is Street. This photo was taken as I walked to the post office (I don’t usually carry my camera to the post office, but I knew I needed a photo and I knew I would be seeing streets!). I must admit the streets are uninspiring locally but this restaurant is housed in one of the few original buildings left along this street. I think it used to be a shop back in ye olde days. I have never been in, but I like the building, just shows there is usually something interesting if you keep your eyes open.
Next week’s prompt is ‘Home’.
The Genesis Moment idea is the brainchild of the wonderful Rachael at The Bowerbird Girl blog. What was my ‘Genesis Moment’, the moment of ‘aha, that is what I want to do when I grow up’ for me? How has that developed into what I do now, what I am known for? That is the question and a tricky one I think, I am still not really sure what I want to do when I grow up. Do I have an answer, well yes, thanks for asking, I do.
I have been making jewellery for a good many years, mainly for myself and now I sell it too. Only recently have I found my ‘what I do’, the ‘What are you known for’ part of the Genesis Moment.
To be honest, I used to make jewels which I knew would be popular but they really weren’t my style, but someone had asked, so I obliged. These pieces are never your best work are they, kind of someone else’s idea really.
A few years ago, I had the pleasure of taking a class instructed by the amazing, inspiring and brilliant Stephanie Sersich to make her signature ‘Spiney Knotted Bracelet’. I used a gorgeous selection of beads and thread provided by Stephanie, followed along closely and made my first bracelet. The whole experience of the class and the finshed bracelet set the wheels of my brain spinning.

This week was hot and cold and sunny and rainy. Pretty much all weather covered! I survived a school field trip to the zoo where we saw lots of animals even though it rained all day. I had a small group of kids to herd and they all had a great time, not a single complaint about the rain!
I have been stalking the neighbourhood flowers, they are so glorious, I have to snap photos whenever I get chance. The peonies were so gorgeous in the rain, I didn’t care that I was on my knees with my camera trying to get the best angle with flower and raindrops in perfect harmony (and focus).
I haven’t used the Hipstamatic app for a while as sometimes all of those lens/film choices get a little overwhelming. This week saw a few successful Hipsta shots.
Whenever we catch the Metro through the summer there are always fabulous thistles along the track (not too close I hasten to add!). I like to get photos of their vibrant colours and when they have gone to fluffy seed.
All of these photos were taken on my iPhone 4, except the peony which I used my Canon Rebel to capture.

Firstly, let me say how much I am enjoying Through The Lens Thursday and how much I am learning. So, thanks to Greta at GFunkified and Alison at Writing Wishing who dreamt the whole thing up with a prompt for every week.
When I first switched my camera to manual a few months I was almost positive that I would soon be back to auto as I had less than no idea what all the numbers meant and which to use for any given photo situation. I was convinced I would be missing great shots left, right and centre because one or all of my numbers would be wrong and my photo would be dark, out of focus or both!
Well, here I am and I have not gone back to auto and even better, I can’t believe I didn’t make the effort years ago to use manual. Yes, it is confusing (still), and I thank the photography fairies everyday that I can take a ton of photos of the same thing and delete the crap ones. Good old digital!
This week’s prompt for Through The Lens Thursday was ‘Empty’ and as I was making my son’s birthday cake I thought empty egg shells might work just fine. So I gathered up the shells and took them outside for better light and took a few snaps in various arrangements. I liked this one best so I cropped it and here it is. Empty.

I finished the chocolate cake and I have to make it into a Batman birthday cake by tonight!
What would you have used for ‘Empty’? Next week is Street, so I had better get thinking about that one.
In April I joined in a Spring Card Swap hosted by Kerry at Handmade Success. The deal was, make a card or buy a handmade card and send it snail mail to your allotted partner. Done and done.
This was a nice change for me as I don’t usually make cards, I have printed photos onto cards, but I don’t paint or write or paint and write on cards. I do now! I had such fun using the brush script technique to paint on lots of cards. Firstly painting and writing through a pile of paper to warm up my brush and brain.
My partner was Kerry from Handmade Success (no pressure then) and I made her a brush script card. Or rather I made lots with various words and phrases and picked the one I liked best. I ruined one by trying to be cute with washi tape. Fail. Keep it simple stupid was the lesson learnt there methinks.
I sent the middle card to Kerry and I received the beauty above. It is a lovely colour with a slightly embossed feel to the print, so this photo really doesn’t do it justice.
So thanks to Kerry for organising the swap and I am already looking forward to making more cards! I have decided to send more cards and letters in the mail too. Yay!

10 on the tenth from Saturday, I didn’t post on Saturday because it was the Bead Soup Blog Party reveal and I didn’t want to be posting all day! So here they are!
1. Mr Y and I got up early to go a local church ‘Garage’ sale. We got there so early we had to join a little line to get in. Very keen! I spotted this box as soon as we got there and I thought it would be ideal to store photos in. When I bought it, it was labeled ‘suprise hardware $1’, so I took my hardware chances and got the box. Turns out it is great for my photos and it was indeed full of hardware including some very nice hooks I will most likely use. Good start to the sale!
2. The jewels I made with the beads I received as part of the Bead Soup exchange.
3. and 4. A tin and buttons from the sale.
5. and 6. Award winning magnets! Another score from the garage sale. I have no idea what I will do with these, but they are so 1970’s, I love them!
7. My neighbour was cutting her roses and gave me these two, they are so pretty, look at the pink one, it has three blooms in one.
8. and 9. I decided to paint an area of the inside of the front door with chalk board paint, so that I can write things to remember on there. Ironically we got to school today only to find we had forgotten Mr Y’s backpack!
10. I thought I saw a puddy cat!
This week’s photos are a little sparse, but we have:

Remember I wrote about the Bead Soup Blog Party a while back? Well, I mixed up my soup, added a few ingredients and off I went to create some jewels!
This is the second year I have taken part in the ‘Pretty Things’ Bead Soup Blog Party and it is always so much fun. From the initial partnering up to the excitement of receiving my bead soup in the mail, to the making of the final pieces. Here is what I made last year, I have to say I am still a little in love with that butterfly ring.
I knew I wanted to make a ring this year and I also wanted to use linen thread in the main piece. One of the coconut buttons begged me to be a ring and who was I to argue? The salmon hue of the linen complements the heart focal perfectly I think.

I made the lovely button ring, simple, but such a pretty button, what else does it need?
The earrings are one of my favourite designs, dramatic with out the weight. Summery casual or evening beauty.
Just look at that clever little heart, it is gorgeous and reversible. Yellow mood? Blue mood? You decide! This is a long long necklace at thirty inches and I a super happy with how it turned out.
