Pom Pom ghost

Halloween meets pom poms and out pops a ghost! I had the bright idea of making a ghost using pom poms this morning, so I did! Want to make your own pom pom ghostie friend? Easy peasy. You need to make two pom poms the same size. When you have two pom poms, sew them together using the same wool. Then the fun part, you get to play ghost hair stylist. Trim trim trim away to get a ghosty ghost shape. Final touch is adding the eyes. Choose two buttons and sew them where you want the eyes. Add a length of wool to hang him and you are all done. Now you can make lots of ghosts and make a spooky garland or fill a glass vase with ghosts or just run around scaring people with them.

Weekly Photos October 7 2013

I am joining Emily at The Beetle Shack starting this week and posting a little collection of photos taken over the previous week. 1.  Bodhi decorating the porch now it is October and we have dragged out the Halloween decos. 2.  We found a toad in the woods who sat bravely while I stuck my phone in his face. 3.  Little white mushrooms in a row. 4.  Field of corn at the pumpkin patch. 5.  Corn sacks for sliding speed. 6.  Spooky owl. 7.  Bodhi conquers the hay pyramid. 8.  Giant pumpkin. That was last week, I am looking forward to the cooler weather predicted for this week and getting some lovely pictures.

Photo filters and apps for Halloween

October is here and apparently so is Halloween fever!  My youngest fetched up our bag of Halloween decos gathered mainly from November sales, so it has taken us a few years to gather a spider or three. I did like that he squished a pair of skelly-bob gloves behind a drain pipe, to rather good effect I think!  So I took a snap and then I added a few (too many) finishes and got a spooky photo as a reward! For this shot, I used Snapseed and cropped and added a ‘grunge’ finish and a texture and a creepy frame.   Spooky huh? I started with this – After this one, I had to do the spider too!  An innocent giant spider chomping on a glow in the dark skelly, add a few photo finishes and creepy spider with a swarm to help him…. For this one, I started in Camera+ , cropped and added the ‘Dreamstate’ filter, then on top of that I used the ‘Pinhole’ filter.   I messed with the intensity to get …

2012 in review.

This was so hard, choosing one, single photo per month to cover 2012.  I love the ones I have found and remembered all the great stuff we did through the year.  Thank goodness for the daily diary I keep, otherwise I would never had remembered half the  dates and events.  It has also made me realise how time zips by!  I am taking part in my first link-up ever and it is with Farewell Stranger which I came across as I was reading Writing Wishing blog. January starts top left and the months follow downwards.  I made a collage of the photos and I like to see them together like this. January we found these wicker huts in Clayton.  They are still there and I still don’t know why.  Are they art?  Does someone live there? Or are they just because?  Jan 4th-update-the huts are called Double or Nothing and are by an artist called Patrick Dougherty who makes these wicker installations all over the world.  Thanks to Pip Lincolne of Meet Me At Mikes for the …

October 2012 Photo A Day

Day 1. Where You Stood. Chilly out, wet footprints on a skateboard ramp destined for the tri city yard sale on Saturday. Day 2. Lunch. Miso soup with pot stickers. This is something I will often have for lunch, but I did plan a little bit around the daily photo for this one. Check the chopsticks! I ate the soup with a spoon…. Day3. This happened today. I went to Trader Joes for pumpkin bread ingredients and to Target for socks for Bodhi and parchment paper. Day 4. What you read. I have either read these today, am reading them or am going to read them for bedtime stories.  ‘Mary Poppins’ is our bedtime read. You ‘Wouldn’t Want to be a World War II Pilot’ was last nights read, it is quite informative! Day 5. Shadow. Drink anyone? I took this on the iPhone 4 camera, added 1962 in Camera Bag, then into Camera+ to add clarity and color dodge. Love playing with photo apps! Day 6. I’m thankful for.   Amazing yard sale finds …

Pumpkin carving debut

Confession time. I have never carved a pumpkin… I may have done the face bit before, but never the whole top off, pumpkin guts out bit.  Out came the knives, I lopped off the top.  We scraped and pulled out the seeds and flesh.  Lots of pumpkin for soup here. The orange inside glows with bright, insides smell sweet and fresh and shout ‘I want to be soup’. It is hollow and sounds empty,  in need of it’s Halloween look. Once the soup ingredients have been scraped and persuaded out, squash four cloves of garlic, cook for a minute or two in oil, add pumpkin flesh, stir to introduce the garlic to the pumpkin. Add enough stock to cover and boil until the pumpkin is cooked.  Stir the juice and zest of a lemon.  Smell to taste. Blend until smooth and eat with the most amazing bread you can make or find. Out come the markers and the face is drawn on then sliced into shape.  Eyes and teeth pop out willingly.  Orange glows right out.

Spooky Haunted House craft for Halloween

Second Grade Halloween party is coming up and I am going to have them make  haunted houses as the craft section of the party.  I still haven’t decided on the snack section, but I am sure there will be plenty of sugar and scary food colours! Want to make a spooky haunted house?  Here’s how. Spooky Haunted House ingredients tall juice or milk carton                                                                                                         construction paper or any paper you like                                                                                                         …

Smiles

Today’s photo theme is ‘Made you smile’.  I soon snapped a bunch of glow in the dark skelly bobs, including a headless one which always makes me smile. I can’t even remember how he lost his head, but I like him without it! Since I took this I saw a lady walking past the Container Store hiding behind a Whole Foods bag. She could have been shielding her face from the sun, but I am going with hiding!  I had a quick look into the car park, but I could see no spies or assasins stalking her.  I suppose because she was hiding so effectively. Then I got to the Y for my yoga class,  and there was a boat on the back of a truck. Possibly waiting to go in the pool or maybe it has set it’s floaty sights on a river trip? Made me smile! Of course I had to spot an irresistible Autumnal tree with glowing yellow leaves. No funny business on this photos, just yellow gloriousness! I do like to …

Ten on the tenth

It is time for ten photos on the tenth day….of the tenth month, I only just realized that! Here are todays comings and goings in my neck of the woods. I made Blueberry muffins for breakfast. No, this is not normal! It is Gary’s birthday today. Unfortunately I didn’t plan well and the muffins were not done in time and everyone had cereal and raced off to school. Bodhi and I walked to school in the chilly sunshine. The trees were luminous in the sunshine. My neighbour has great Halloween decorations including this guy! He is also my ‘photo of the day’ which was emotion – I thought he looked a little fed up! On my street walking home, I spotted lots of leaves with delicate dew on them, so I snapped this one. Home for coffee and a blueberry muffin. I made a little pan of beads to make a knotted necklace. Pretty pinks and greys with a hint of amethyst. I had a request to make a Longhorn choker, so here he is. …

September 2012 Photo A Day

September has been the first month I have done the photo a day ‘challenge’ thrown down by Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim blog.   Each day has a word or phrase and off we go and snap a photo to fit.  I used my iPhone 4 for all of the photos and various apps to take the photo or to add finishes to liven the shots up! As I take the photos, they get popped into Instagram (@catseatdogsmakes) and I post on Twitter (@catseatdogsmake). I have also brought them all together here today! There are a couple missing as I have them on Instagram, but they got lost from my phone camera roll and I am not smart enough to get them from Insta onto my computer and into the blog – doh!  I have put some Fat Mum Slim photos and some Hipstamatic here, for a bit of variety.  I have written with are Hipstamatic and the rest are FMS. September in Pictures. T Day 1. ‘You now’ FMS theme. Untangling a GI Joe …
