Weekly Photos 20/52

  1.  My neighbour’s lovely onion head flower. 2.  Birdy at the zoo. 3.  Seal teeth. 4.  Seal watching. 5.  Hippo behind the fish. 6.  Rain soaked Peony. 7.  Clouds on Hipstamatic. 8.  Watching kickball. 9.  Thistle at the Metro train track. This week was hot and cold and sunny and rainy.  Pretty much all weather covered!  I survived a school field trip to the zoo where we saw lots of animals even though it rained all day.  I had a small group of kids to herd and they all had a great time, not a single complaint about the rain! I have been stalking the neighbourhood flowers, they are so glorious, I have to snap photos whenever I get chance.  The peonies were so gorgeous in the rain, I didn’t care that I was on my knees with my camera trying to get the best angle with flower and raindrops in perfect harmony (and focus). I haven’t used the Hipstamatic app for a while as sometimes all of those lens/film choices get a little …

April photo a day 2014

April was a month of planting and digging and mowing it seems.  I started to read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which I am enjoying and will most likely finish sometime in June! We started to re-do the bathroom and found some cool old wallpaper and the original floor tiles.  Easter hopped by and welcomed Spring and all things new and growing.  I made hot cross buns and Simnel cake which is all long gone. Sunflowers seeds were planted on Earth Day and we are watching them peek through the soil and grow at breakneck speed. I started to run again after about a year of not really running, I am looking at a half marathon in October, so there is some incentive to keep pounding the pavement. April was also another month of Fat Mum Slim’s Photo a Day, so here are mine. 1. Something purple. 2. In my hand.  I made a little clutch bag in linen fabric with some machine embroidery on the front. 3. Shapes.  In the new rain barrel. 4. …

Ten on the 10th March 2014

A gorgeous Spring day, hurrah! It is amazing how mood boosting a spot of sunshine and warm air is. For ten on the 10th this month, I have all sorts of things to show you!  It has been a lovely sunny and warm day and even though the dastardly clocks went back an hour over the weekend, everyone is in a good mood. Today I have been admiring the flowers I bought last week. Wondering what I should do with the treasures I found at the antiques mall?  I bought a perfume bottle stopper and some chiffon ribbon which by coincidence is the same colour almost exactly as the stopper, so pretty. Pablo has been enjoying the sunshine too.  Chasing his tennis ball up and down the garden! I made and listed a couple of new bracelets, I think they are both beauties!  If you want, click on the image to magically fly over to my Etsy shop. My new notebook and my favourite scarf. The garlic is starting to peek through.  Remember when I …

Weekly photos Oct 28 2013

Pair of mushrooms and an ant. Cheese Swirl Buns to go with tomato soup for a quick dinner. A very chilly morning. I smiled as I took this dude’s picture.  He has such a funny face. Bodhi carved a mini pumpkin. Block Party street art. A box full of sewing treasures found at a basement sale. Halloween decos. Shadow on the street. It has been a busy week, dentist appointments, parent teacher conferences, gymnastics, karate belt test, sleepovers, chilli cook off at school and a street Halloween party.  Phew. I finished watching ‘Derek’ on Netflix this week and I loved it.  What are you watching?  Anything I need to catch up on? Have a fab week!

July 2013 ‘photo a day’

July was a lovely weather month, it started off cool and ended cool with a few hot days in the middle.  Very nice. During July we completed reading clubs at the library, saw Despicable Me 2, visited some local parks and made lots of muffins! The future king was born and has my Grandad’s name – George. I made lots of notes about things to make when the boys go back to school, new jewels and scarves for the fall season. Here are the photos from July as usual using Fat Mum Slim’s prompts.  Here are the August prompts if you want to join in. Day 1. Happiness is …  Finding treasure in the woods, not sure what this is, maybe part of a fireplace or picture frame or mirror. Day 2. Shoes. Day 3. Cold.  Ice Cream Factory. Day 4. Red, white or blue. Day 5. Love.   Day 6. Fave smell.  Sweet Peas. Day 7. Where you are.  Maramec Springs State Park, MO. Day 8. Path.  Throwing seed bombs on the path through …

Weekend Adventures

On Friday I spotted a little tiny ‘Moving Sale’ sign for Saturday morning.  I made a mental note  which are frankly not to be relied on, I work better with a note written on my hand!  I can’t remember anything, it all has to be written down somewhere… On Saturday, I left a bit earlier so that I could pop into the sale on the way to bootcamp class.  I carry my weights in my backpack, so I grabbed my mat  and off I went to class, via the moving sale. I saw some little glass and ceramic bowls which I like to use to sort beads into when I am choosing colours, the whole box was the deal, so I snagged that.  Then I saw some massive, clear, crystal cut,  acrylic beads in the bottom of a plant saucer, I asked if they were for sale and they were mine! Off I went with my box of bowls and beads, yoga mat and 16lbs of weights!  Thankfully I only got a few awkward steps …

A Beautiful Mess iPhone app is here!

This week saw the very exciting launch of the A Beautiful Mess iPhone app.  Emma and Elsie at ABM had been talking up the app for a few weeks, would it live up to the hype?  Yes, yes it does. It is available internationally and costs 99c here in the US. There is a great base of doodles and frames, texts and filters.  Not many filters, but there are so many filter apps available, I wasn’t too bothered about that. I loved the doodles and borders options.  They have a ton of colour options too and if you layer them up, you can get some fab effects! My Sindy doll helped me experiment with the A Beautiful Mess app! In the top photo, she is sporting a vintage 1970’s original crocheted dress which I think my Mum made, the ukulele/guitar  is also vintage (from way back when I was a little girl). I added various borders, adding layers and colours.  I love the effect of lots of the same layers, just moved slightly. In the …

MoBot on the iPhone.

It has rained nearly all weekend with gaps of grey, so it is a joy to post these photos I took of the Missouri Botanical Gardens from a 6th grade field trip I went on last week. Wouldn’t you like a bee hive or three in your back garden? I like the metal deer in the Home Gardening Centre.  At least he won’t eat all of your veggies! These wind chimes are very impressive, I think there should be a field full of them! The sun was out and it was a pretty hot day and the flowers were all blooming and looking gorgeous. We had a good explore and discovered herbs, Chinese inscriptions and lizards! I took all of the photos on my iPhone4 and added some filters and cropping using Camera+,  Laminar Express and Afterlight apps. Let me know what apps you use in the comments department.  Do you use the same ones or are you an experimenter? In the Climatron we found this very cool green lizard and of course some Chihuly …

iPhone filters on a Dandelion (roar) Clock.

I found some cool Dandelion clocks while out and about last week, so I snapped a couple of pictures.  In fact I snapped loads and only got a few decent ones, they are tricky little monkeys to get to stay still.   I popped on some different filters to see how they looked. I thought I would share my results.  All of the filters and effects were added in Camera+ on the iPhone 4. These are the starting photos, no filter, no crops. I put this on into Camera+ and cropped it down and added clarity Crop, clarity, depth of field.   Crop and Polarise Crop, Clarity and Ansel. As part of a course I am doing by the lovely Jessica Van Den called ‘Set up Shop‘ I have to ‘play’ as part of one of the lessons,  and I intend to!  I might pull out my pens and a pretty notebook and have a little draw. I recently was introduced to the work of Kate Bingaman-Burt this week by Gathered digital magazine and have …
