Happy New (school) Year!

The beginning of the school year feels to me more like a new year than January 1st.  Without the resolutions and goal setting and navel gazing which is tradition in my January world! My August new year is more about getting on with stuff, more starting, less thinking. Even though I am now working part time at the library which is new from last year, I still make my plans. So far they have included – read my magazine stack, paint the gladioli I just bought from Trader Joes (especially to paint and draw!), go to the Art Museum to gather inspiration, watch classes at Creative Bug and Skillshare as well as all of the art journaling. So far I can report that the boys have been back at school for two days and my magazines are still in a stack and the gladioli are beautiful and full of flowers but unpainted, I have been nowhere and watched nothing! However I have had a very nice couple of days getting back into the routine and …

Weekly Photos 53/52

We have never visited this park before and it looks like we might have to wait a while before we see it when it is dry.  It is both fascinating and macabre to see floods in action close up. Powder Valley park and trail was not under water, so we had a wander along the trails there. I liked the colours and movement of the creek bed here. On New Year’s Day we went to Rockwoods Reservation and walked ‘The trail through the trees’.  These icicles looked like lots of discarded plastic bags from a distance. Lots of rocky faces to be spotted in these rocks at Rockwoods Reservation. How on earth does ice form like this?  There were a few similar formations under a tree, no more ice or frost anywhere around.  It was paper thin, delicate and beautiful. End of the hike, end of the day. I hope you had a great start to 2016!  Happy New Year!

Resolutions or revolutions

The end of the year, a time to reflect on 2013 and look forward to 2014. What to do, what to make, how to do, how to create? Do you make resolutions?  I do and I write them all down, I think that is so that I can look back the following year and roll my eyes at them. Last year I wrote ‘100 things I want to do in 2013’ in my notebook.  I can see you rolling your eyes, and that’s ok, because I am doing the same thing! I always include the regulars, the mainstays of resolutions and the New Year.  Loose weight, exercise more, eat better.  Then I have my own mainstays which I really really do want to do, but often don’t, like writing more, sketching more, drinking more water (why oh why can I not get my brain to drink more water, how hard can this be?  Too hard for me apparently.)  If you need evidence, look at my post from last year! Here are five of my resolutions …

HNY!

H.N.Y…… Ha, who do I think I am? A teenager?! What I mean is Happy new year and let’s make it a good one! The last one was a good one and I want another, no, I want one better. Resolutions?  Made any?  Do you keep them, or do you make them with a flourish, write them down and then ignore them until next year when you dig them out or turn back to the beginning of the diary (yes, this is me) and make various noises of recognition, surprise and snorts of derision at all of your first day of a new year wishes desires and motivations? Exercise, that will be on my list I am sure. Do more, different, more regularly, more weight loss specific. Of course another staple – loose some weight, muffin top, spare tire whichever inanimate object you no longer require around your mid section – be gone. Eat healthily. Come on, that’s on your list for sure. Are you a cut out all sugar, fat, flour, chocolate, coffee, booze, …
