Nonpareils and Through the Lens Thursday #7 Dull.

No, you are not a day adrift, and amazingly nor am I. I  decided not to post my Through the Lens Thursday yesterday or it would have given away my Valentine treat for my husband and he looks at my blog, so that would not have been much of a surprise! So here is the photo and how I made the Valentine chocolate treats. This week’s theme was ‘dull’, so I snapped these sprinkles which are dull in comparison to the usual garish coloured and shiny versions.  I took the above photo with my Canon, the rest are taken on the iPhone. I still call these itsy bitsy sugar balls  ‘hundreds and thousands’ and I love them!  They are called  ‘sprinkles’ here in the States, what do you call them? Crunchy teeth breakers? Teeny coloured balls which look pretty on cupcakes and trifles for a few minutes then melt and bleed a tie dye effect all over the treat? Fairy balls? Nonpareils? Whatever you call them, I like them best with chocolate on,  so I …

Through the Lens Thursday. Flower.

I know, ha ha, very funny. We have a few inches of snow and I have to find a flower for Through the Lens Thursday! Challenge accepted. I found some snow topped hydrangeas which with some bending and twisting and kneeling in the snow, I could photo against the beautiful blue sky we have today. I took a ton of photos, different numbers on different dials for different effects. In fact the first two I took, I just shot them straight off, I forgot to check my light meter and all other numbers.  Someone was going by and in my self conscious rush, I just started to snap away.  Well, thank you stranger who made me uncomfortable in my random photo taking because these are my favourite photos of the lot! It is so exciting to get the photos onto the iPad to check them out properly. I always put my photos onto the iPad so that I can see them nice and big and check for focus or lack of it.  I get a …

Through the Lens Thursday. Reflection.

As part of Through the Lens Thursday hosted by Greta at GFunkified and Alison at Writing Wishing, here is this weeks offering.  Today is cloudy and dry, so not many natural reflection opportunities. I have this lovely vintage mirror, so I thought the reflection of the tree in the mirror might be cool, then look who popped in to check himself out. Click, done! Thanks Pablo for being my doggie model!

Happy Friday and a late through the lens Thursday.

Yesterday didn’t go so well, nothing terrible happened, it was just a rubbish day and I got nothing of any use done.  In fact I really got nothing done, of use or not. The day started out just fine, but then I took some photos which all turned out so badly I had to delete the lot, I think this was the tipping point, unfortunately this was 8.20am, so the rest of the day stood no chance. I thought I would make something, that usually helps, so out comes the sewing machine and the fabric and the ironing board.  I cut out a scarf, yes a scarf, only the easiest thing to make next to maybe, a napkin.   A rectangle of fabric which according to third grade math, is also known as a ‘special square’.  A special square?  Where does that leave triangles? Rehab? Anyway, it all went wrong, my scissors are so old and abused (paper, I blame the paper) they barely manage fabric any more so even the basic cutting out was …

Project 365 photos 18-24

This weeks photos have thrown out a couple of surprises. I always compile them together on Monday, so some I have almost forgotten! I think my favourites this week are the vintage toy cup and the hat with the chandelier. I forgot about the cup because I was trying to photo something else which didn’t work, so that this one came out nicely was a pleasant surprise. I worked on it in Snapseed and popped on a vintage filter. The chandelier was a hard one for me to catch, I really wanted the casual hat and the decadent glass of the chandelier in just the right proportions and I think I got it in the end. As usual the photos are a mix of iPhone 4 and Canon Rebel. 18/365 Vintage toy cup. 19/365 I love how this photo turned out, a good example of the reason I always carry my phone, you never know what you might see. 20/365 Double exposure on the Hipstamatic app. 21/365 Self portrait sat on the porch with a …

Project 365 photos 11-17

11/365  I was taking photos of the rake in the leaves to practice with my camera and the dog wandered in to glare at the rake. 12/365.  Beyond frost this morning, straight on to icy.  I caught the ice on the fallen leaves with my iPhone using Camera+.  I messed about with it in Snapseed on the iPad. 13/365.  Pickle the cat deciding whether to come in or not. 14/365.  You always knew there was a feet shot coming!  Here it is, with pom poms. 15/365.  The finished pom pom fox hiding out in the woods. 16/365.  A cloudy day peeking up at the bird feeder. 17/365.  I spotted the climbing pink leaves behind the bins and had to snap a photo with the phone. How was your week?  I think I need to make a promise to all of us to stop with the leaf photos!  The very windy day yesterday took care of that as it blew most of them down. I want to take more indoor photos on my camera, so that …

Project 365 Photos 1 – 3

The first week of the Click it Up a Notch 365 Project was a short one as we started on November 1st which was Friday, so only three photos this week. 1/365.  My very first photo taken with my camera on manual.  I love this reel of thread, remember when I found it in the box of sewing equipment at a basement sale?    The fact that it is even in focus makes me a happy girl! 2/365.  This blue and peeling door is part of the Lemp Brewery building in downtown St Louis.  I took this on my iPhone 4, no filters, just a crop. 3/365.  I was looking at the bright yellow tree above this ‘paint’ (it is coloured water in an old tin, mixed up by my youngest!) when I noticed the reflection.  It took a few goes before I got a good image of the tree in the blue paint. I am looking forward to this year of photos.  I have completed the themed photo a day challenges before, but this one …

NaBloPoMo and Project 365

I rather hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew this November.  I have taken on two ‘challenges’ both of which are blog related (no, I am not participating in Mo’vember, there will be no facial hair in my future).    I am hoping that I will improve in my blog post writing this month and my photos will improve in a year long project which happens to start today. No  matter how much I would love to write a book when I grow up, it is most likely not going to be a novel, so although NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) would be an amazing way to kick start that novel, I will not be the author.  However the fine folk at WordPress and Blog Her are joining forces this year for this year’s November of NaBloPoMo (National Blog Post Month) which is within my capabilities I think.  I hope anyway, I will let you know in about a month! Project 365 is a daily photograph challenge and hosted by Click it …

Weekly photos Oct 28 2013

Pair of mushrooms and an ant. Cheese Swirl Buns to go with tomato soup for a quick dinner. A very chilly morning. I smiled as I took this dude’s picture.  He has such a funny face. Bodhi carved a mini pumpkin. Block Party street art. A box full of sewing treasures found at a basement sale. Halloween decos. Shadow on the street. It has been a busy week, dentist appointments, parent teacher conferences, gymnastics, karate belt test, sleepovers, chilli cook off at school and a street Halloween party.  Phew. I finished watching ‘Derek’ on Netflix this week and I loved it.  What are you watching?  Anything I need to catch up on? Have a fab week!
