NaBloPoMo and Project 365

I rather hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew this November.  I have taken on two ‘challenges’ both of which are blog related (no, I am not participating in Mo’vember, there will be no facial hair in my future).    I am hoping that I will improve in my blog post writing this month and my photos will improve in a year long project which happens to start today.

No  matter how much I would love to write a book when I grow up, it is most likely not going to be a novel, so although NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) would be an amazing way to kick start that novel, I will not be the author.  However the fine folk at WordPress and Blog Her are joining forces this year for this year’s November of NaBloPoMo (National Blog Post Month) which is within my capabilities I think.  I hope anyway, I will let you know in about a month!

Project 365 is a daily photograph challenge and hosted by Click it Up a Notch which is a wonderful website full of tips, information and friendly people.  For this I must take a photo a day and blog them.  I am going to post the photos weekly on a Monday.  As a sub challenge, I want to try and take nearly all of the photos on my big girl camera using Manual only.  Now this may not sound like much of a challenge, but I always always use the point and shoot options on my camera and I am determined to move over to M and leave behind the green rectangle and his automatic friends.

Learning to use my camera properly is making my brain hurt, so I go right back to Mr Green Rectangle.  So, for this challenge, unless I really can’t, I want to use my camera and use it properly for every photo.  I am hoping that by the end of the month or the year I will understand the numbers and letters I have to use and in which order and when and how.

So, that was my first NaBloPoMo post and here is my first Project 365 photo. Happy Dance!

That there photo of a lovely vintage cotton reel is the very first photo I have successfully taken using manual on my camera with no help from anybody, all by myself!

Are you doing either or both of these challenges?  Do you want to?  I have put the links in for you to follow if you fancy.

  1. I love your post AND you picture! I have a similar goal…but I caved and used the green arrow for my first picture in Project 365. Hopefully by year’s end I’ll have learned something!

    • Wendy, that made me laugh so much! I know exactly what you mean. I know lots of my photos will be a healthy mix of manual (ahem, I will try!), automatic and phone (with or without apps). I don’t doubt that we will learn something, I wonder what!

  2. hooray! hooray for nablopomo! hooray for 365 challenges! hooray for shooting in manual mode! you can so totally do this, lady.
