Through The Lens Thursday 35. Texture.

This week in the world of Through The Lens Thursday, the prompt is texture.  I was all set to head into the woods ready to throw myself onto the damp leafy path to catch a photo of a newly grown mushroom or get a shot of some interesting tree bark.  Then I opened my back door to check on the tomatoes and there was our only surviving sunflower gently turning to seed to feed the pretty yellow bird which likes to sit on the flower and have a snack. What beautiful texture right here, the flowers in the middle of the flower, the drying petals and the forming seeds.  We will harvest some seeds when they are ready and hopefully have a lovely yellow sunflower crop next summer. Have you been growing this summer or are you planning to grow (depending on which season you are heading into)?  I have kale and beetroot seedlings peeking through for a lovely Fall crop.

Through The Lens Thursday 34. Green.

For Through the Lens Thursday this week, the prompt is ‘Green’, so a nice easy one to find.  I wandered into the rain drenched garden (big big storms last night) and snapped a few green items.  The green tomatoes are turning red very kindly as they are ripening just slowly enough that we haven’t had to make tomato based food for a week straight, then no more.  These are cherry tomato plants and I pick 3 or 4 a day which usually get eaten right off the plant or popped in a salad or onto a pizza.  I still have plants full of tomatoes which the squirrels and groundhogs are sharing nicely, so we can look forward to homegrown tomatoes for the rest of the summer! I like the little droplet on this photo as the plants are just drying from all the rain. Thanks as always to Greta at Gfunkified and Alison at Writing Wishing for devising Through the Lens Thursday and helping us all improve our photo skills. Next week is Texture, so that will …

Through The Lens Thursday 33. Lemon.

I had to go and check the list of prompts for this week’s Through the Lens Thursday photo.  Lemon?  Are you sure?  Lemon?  An actual lemon?  The colour lemon?  A lemon recipe? Feeling like a lemon? Yes, I am sure,  and all of the above will do just fine. I decided to dig out a few lemon recipes from my 1970’s Betty Crocker Recipe Card Library and use an actual real life lemon. Lemon and dappled sunlight, what a lovely combination. Happy Thursday!

Through The Lens Thursday 32. Love.

I was wondering what to photo for this week’s prompt, ‘Love’ is a pretty open one don’t you think?  I really had no idea when I got up this morning with the rain pouring down outside,  what I would photo. I peeked out the back door to see how the garden was looking and to check on the tomatoes, making sure that the local wildlife hasn’t had more than it’s fair share.  Groundhogs and squirrels I am looking at you. As I was looking into the lovely watering rain, I noticed this little puddle at the bottom of the steps.  The ground has been de-grassed from a summer of slip n sliding and this area always forms a mini pond in the rain.  Today the water had soaked into the ground just enough to leave me a heart shaped puddle.  How totally cool is this!  I grabbed my camera and here we are – Love in the rain. ‘Through the Lens Thursday’ is a photo improvement project which runs all year, hosted by Writing Wishing …

Through The Lens Thursday 31. Looking Up.

This week’s prompt for Through The Lens Thursday is ‘Looking Up’, so I did.  We went on a little hike yesterday with some friends and these pylons were marching across the landscape.   I looked up and caught the harsh lines of the pylon and wires against the drifting clouds of the afternoon. Do you always remember to look up as well as all around to get a photograph or just take in your surroundings?  It’s a good thing to do.

Through the Lens Thursday 30. Stairs.

This week’s prompt has got me thinking.  What is the difference kind friends between stairs and steps?  All I can find in my direct vicinity are steps, up to porches, down to basements, into shops, even rock steps in the woods, but no stairs.  I class stairs as the steps (confused yet?) which are inside a house, apartment block, department store or theatre.  They are often carpeted, but still stairs if not.  Why?  Why do I  go up the stairs in my Mum’s house to the next floor, but I go down the steps to my basement and up the steps to the porch.  In stately homes there is always a sweeping staircase, never sweeping steps.  They are essentially the same thing, why the different name? You take ‘steps’ as you walk but you never take big ‘stairs’ to get somewhere faster, but bigger ‘steps’ will get you there quickly. So alas, I have no stairs, only steps for my photo!  Pretty darn cool steps though, check out the ivy climbing up step by step. …

Through The Lens Thursday #28 Eyes

This week I chose these game pieces as my ‘eyes’ photo (s).  They are from a game called ‘Go to the Head of the Class’ and I only have the players, no board or instructions.   I like that the eyes are very simply drawn but they are all so different and convey each character so well.   I am not sure how politically correct these schoolyard stereotypes are now, but I really like them and their funny little faces, ready to go to the head of the class! Through the Lens Thursday is hosted by Writing Wishing and Gfunkified blogs and I am learning so much. I took the pictures on my Canon Rebel and collated them in Canva.

Through The Lens Thursday 27. Mess.

Through The Lens Thursday is a weekly challenge to get us to use our camera on manual setting and learn all about those pesky numbers and how to combine them to get a successful photo.  As you can tell, I am quite the professional already by my discussion on ‘the numbers’.  I am getting the hang of manual slowly but surely and I haven’t flicked back to ‘auto’ all year.  Yay! For today’s photo prompt ‘Mess’,  I had an idea to get the boys to shake their messy hair and I would magically capture the moment in freeze frame.  How on earth do I do that?  What numbers do I need?  To the interweb we go.  I read about freezing the moment and getting the blur and decided to try both. I didn’t want my models shaking their heads into dizzydom, so I snapped a few, changed settings and snapped a few more. Numbers for this one are 1/1000, f4.0, ISO800. The white wall was not the best location as it overpowers the photo I …

Through the Lens Thursday 26. Imperfect.

We are half way through the ‘Through the Lens Thursday’ project which means we are halfway through the year (yikes).  I am so pleased I have been keeping up and taking a photo with my DSLR on manual every week for 26 weeks.  In fact I haven’t switched back to auto all year, so I am a proud photo taker.  Thanks to Alison at Writing Wishing and Greta at GFunkified for keeping us all going. This week’s prompt was ‘Imperfect’ and I was racking my brains trying to think of something….my hair (going grey nicely, thanks for asking!), doughnuts for breakfast, video games, the burst slip ‘n’ slide in all of it’s duct tape glory….when we passed this wonky ‘stop’ sign and the decision was made. We dropped the shopping at home and I grabbed my camera and walked back (not far thankfully) and snapped the leaning sign.  I like the way the sign underneath it warns of angry cars, good to know. Are you doing any year long projects?  Is is worthwhile for …
