Through The Lens Thursday #33. 9 O’Clock.

At 9 o’clock this morning I was just getting breakfast which consisted of toast with homemade marmalade which never really set enough and a cup of tea. Around this time I had just walked my youngest to school and when I got home, the usual activities of a morning – checking e mail which was all trash, putting the washer on, writing my ‘what I need to do today’ list and getting ready to go to pilates and yoga classes all took me up to 9am. I know, I am an over achiever on Thursday mornings at the Y, I take an hour of yoga followed by an hour of pilates. All of this stuff and a whole lot more, is why I am posting my 9 o’clock photo at 2 o’clock! Where do the days go? They whizz by our ears laughing at our lists as we only cross half of the items off. And now it is almost time to go and meet my little fella from school. I wonder how today went? …

Through The Lens Thursday #30 Vintage

I just couldn’t decide what to photo for this week’s Through the Lens Thursday. Vintage covers most things I own! So, I decided to work with an old cassette player and a couple of tapes for good measure. I got this player at an estate sale and it needs some work to get it to play properly again. It plays tapes, but they play very slowly, so that it sounds like a drunkard! Remember when a tape got jammed or the player ran out of battery? That is how this baby plays. I never owned a tape player when I was a teen and listening to music on cassettes, I either used the main stereo in the front room (much to my family’s joy I am sure!) or I monopolized the car tape player wherever we went. It was only when I went off to college that I got my very own portable tape player. Yay for the 80’s and early 90’s. To be honest though, I really don’t consider tapes and the relevant playing …

Through The Lens Thursday #29. Four

This week’s Through the Lens Thursday was ‘Four’, so I planned to snap four cupcakes, but we ate one…. We made butter yesterday which was true science in the kitchen and we got buttermilk too, both of which we used in the red velvet cupcakes in the photo. To make the butter I followed the instructions from She Who Rambles and the cupcakes are from the Hummingbird Bakery book. I had to crack out the scales as the book is British and in grams, non of this measuring in cups business. Thankfully the weather has not quite got to melt the frosting temperatures today, so I took the cupcakes outside for their photoshoot. They turned out light, fluffy and delicious which I put down to the homemade butter and buttermilk! Time to put the kettle on for a cuppa and cake methinks. Next week is ‘Vintage’.

Through The Lens Thursday #28. Dress.

For this week’s Through the Lens Thursday, I picked a dress from my past and from someone else’s past. I bought this dress in a vintage shop in Paris in about 1988 on a college trip with Lincoln Art College. I was 18 years old, studying for my BTEC in fashion design course and we were in Paris for research and a trip up the Eiffel tower! I thought this dress was the best thing I had ever found and I have worn it lots over the years. I think it was handmade but I am not sure of the era, maybe 50’s or 60’s and it is a classic little black dress. I have worn it with Dr Martens and high heels and I wore it on my 40th birthday. Next week’s Through the Lens Thursday prompt is ‘Four’.

Through the Lens Thursday 26, Seasoned. And How the 100 Day Project is going for me.

This week’s prompt for Through the Lens Thursday is ‘Seasoned’.  Should I photo a seasoned dish (I am no food photographer, so no!)? How about some seasoning?  Maybe some herbs from the garden?  Or how about a photo about being a seasoned person? Seasoned the noun rather than the verb, I want to be a seasoned artist, I don’t want to be seasoned with salt and spices!  A seasoned parent is the route Greta at Gfunkified and one of the inventors of TTLT took.  Her lovely picture of her children is testament to her skills as a seasoned mother. This led me to thinking about the 80 days I have been involved in The 100 Day Project and whether I am becoming a seasoned mandala artist or a seasoned follower of challenges thrown out there in media land?  Probably neither, but I have been really enjoying the project and the amazing work being produced by the many many 100 day project participants.  I have stuck to it and made a new mandala every day, some …

Through The Lens Thursday #25. Tie.

It has rained pretty much non stop for the last week which means that the garden is growing and I seem to have wet feet all of the time! It is still warm though, so it is time to bring out the summer bracelets. I made these two last year and there are lots of knots involved in each one. I had to tie a lot of knots! The next prompt for Through the Lens Thursday is ‘Seasoned’.

Through The Lens Thursday #24 Car

I have been on the look out for a good car shot all week and I have to say this is not my favourite photo of all time, but it is a car and not the rental mini van we have had all holiday! I like the look of old beat up cars and trucks, but they are few and far between here on Cape Cod. This was taken at Chatham airport and most likely belongs to someone who has just popped out for a jaunt in his (or her) private plane! Next week is ‘tie’, so I am on the look out for tied things, or maybe a tie. Happy Thursday!
