Through the Lens Thursday. #23 Serene
This week’s Through the Lens Thursday post is a favourite because we are on holiday! In gorgeous Cape Cod with the family, walking the beach and watching the wildlife. Next week is ‘Car’.

For this weeks prompt I wandered into the local industrial park where I knew this wall resided. I know, glamorous location! Patterns are everywhere, and once you start looking for them, they pop up all over the place. Next week’s prompt for Through The Lens Thursday is ‘Serene’.
I really like photos with lots of deliberate negative space. One of the Through the Lens Thursday hosts, Greta at Gfunkified, has some fab examples for this week’s prompt. This tree is part of the Japanese garden at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, reaching into the sky. I took the photo with my Canon 6D and edited in Snapseed. Happy Thursday!
I didn’t realize how many round things are in my ‘I like this’ department. I like my wood rings from Philomena and Ruth, my silver rings made by Kate McKinnon, the two charms on leather which I made yesterday and the string of beads which I will most likely fashion into a bracelet for the summer. Lots of things to like. I find that I tend to wear the same things for a while, then move onto something else. At the minute I am definitely into my wood rings and I love a casual leather cord with something gorgeous on it, simply tied at the back. What is your ‘go to’ wearable at the minute? A favorite scarf or shoes, rings or lipstick! I am trying to be a big girl and wear lipstick and make up more. When I say lipstick, I mean tinted lip balm, baby steps. Happy Thursday! Through the Lens Thursday details are here and next week is ‘negative space’ which I assume doesn’t mean the naughty corner….!
This week’s prompt for Through The Lens Thursday was ‘Music’. So I snapped a couple of photos at my friend’s house who plays the piano. Next week is ‘Round’. Something round, round the corner? Who knows, I am sure I will come up with something ’round’.
I took this prompt very seriously indeed. I thought and thought about what I could take for upside down and ended up laying in my back garden with my head upside down and taking a photo of the grass and the white flowers which currently reside there. Let me tell you, it is not easy trying to set camera numbers and settings and look and press buttons while upside down in grass which really needs mowing. Yes, my grass needs cutting, but the white flowers are all over it and so pretty, I can’t do it (or won’t do it, I will leave judgement up to you!). I suppose I could have made it easier on myself and just taken the photo right way up and flipped it afterwards, but no, I wanted to fully experience the upside down and bugs eye view (if you are an upside down bug) of the world! There were some shots which were a mite more in focus than this one, but I slapped the f stop right …
This was a quick shot of random soda (not even sure there is caffeine inside…) for the prompt this week. I have been at the Missouri State Capital all day with the kids from school and while I was taking lots of photos, there was no caffeine. Ironic as all I really wanted was a giant coffee! When we got home, I bought my boys a slushie, and snapped a photo. Phew!
Since I took this photo of yellow tulips for this week’s Through The Lens Thursday prompt, I have been seeing yellow things all over the place. I went on a thrifting adventure this morning at Goodwill Outlet (the place where second hand goods go to end their days) and saw a yellow cake stand (which I bought), a yellow teapot (had a chip in the spout so I left it), a yellow banana shaped change purse (bought) and a yellow vintage Lipton iced tea jug (kind of wish I had bought it). I even found some fab yellow thread on a vintage wooden spool and bought it with about 15 other spools once I had dug them out. Isn’t it funny how once you start looking for something, you see it everywhere! I took the tulip photo earlier this week after a downpour and I am pleased with the effect the raindrops have on the picture, especially the ‘highlight’ tulip in the middle. Today the yellow sun is shining and it is nice and warm, …
Boxes, boxes, boxes, so many box options! I settled on a jewelry box which is super old and from my Grandma. I love it, the shabby picture on the top and the slot in the side to use as a money box and the bottom which is made from paper (maybe for lost key emergencies!). The book it is sitting on is a copy of National Heritage which I picked up today, it is from 1949 and chock full of paintings and information. Fantastic stuff! Next week’s prompt is ‘Baked’, so I had better get baking – oh, what a shame…! More information on Through the Lens Thursday including a list of prompts can be found here.
I like this picture for this week’s Through The Lens Thursday prompt – In My Cup. I didn’t think anyone wants to see another photo of coffee this side of Instagram, so I went with Daffodils! The shadows look great I think. Next week’s prompt is Box.
