The August Break 18-24 and Weekly Photos 34/52.

Last week was hot hot and more hot with a lot of humidity.  That thick, custardy air which hits you in the face like a hair dryer when you open the door.  Lovely.  We have been sweating out all of our toxins, so we will have beautiful skin by the time Autumn arrives.  In the meantime, lots of sweaty laundry. On the morning walks to school we have been spotting snakes and turtles of various sizes and the mushrooms are abundant which always makes me happy! The August Break continues, we are almost at the end of August, can you believe it!  Here are photos 18 through 24. 18.  Jump.  Self timer on the camera and tripod and boing boing boing! 19.  Black and White.  One of the lovely mushrooms we spotted this week. 20.  Peaceful.  A new mag and sketchbook and lavender looking for a peaceful moment. 21.  Treasures. Rocks from the beach, I always look for unusual shapes and rocks with holes.  Marbles from the creek and acorns from the woods. 22.  Shadow. …

The August Break 11-17 and Weekly Photos 33/52

11.  Handwriting.  Chalk board on the door. 12.  On the Table. 13.  My Guilty Pleasure.  I was supposed to be running… 14.  Hands. 15.  Blue.  Truck and flag. 16.  Look Down.  Vintage ‘Life’ magazines in a box in a junk shop. 17.  Bookshelf.  Polaroid camera and car amid my book pile. The August Break prompts are getting my creativity flowing.   I like to be sure I take photos and make something or draw something every day even if what I make is a sandwich!   This week I roasted corn on the fire pit after we had hot dogs and s’mores for lunch.  The corn is destined for chowder and in the freezer at the minute. I listed a few new necklaces on my Etsy shop and the dog demanded I take his handsome photo! Have a lovely week!

Weekly Photos 28/52 and Purple.

Last week was spent mostly swimming and watching the sunflowers start to bloom.  The giant sunflowers have no blooms yet and are over 6 feet tall, the flowers are on the slightly shorter plants.  It is lovely to see how they change every day. We have had hot dogs and s’mores over the fire pit and even some marshmallow roasting over the hob when my youngest told my teen that he is a ‘professional cooker’ as he toasted the marshmallows!  I love it when the kids say daft things to each other and always make a note in the diary! Did you see the full moon on Saturday night?  So cool.  As it rose behind a huge tree the silhouetted leaves made the moon appear to shimmer and sparkle behind them as they gently rustled in the breeze with the moonlight seeping through.  We stood and watched it, mesmerised, the moon was so pretty and we caught it at just the right moment.  I wish I had video to share, but none of my visual …

June Photo a Day 2014

Here are the photos from June, a little late, but here we are huffing and puffing and sitting at the back.  What did you get up to in June?  Is it summer or winter with you?  It is heating up here and I am already looking forward to cooler weather, I know, I am a cool weather girl. 1. Joy.  I find great joy in Flow magazine, it is one of my favourites. 2. Doing.  Playing Top Trumps – Horrible Histories (and they really are!) with my youngest. 3. Family.  Off to mow our neighbour’s lawm. 4. Ordinary.  An ever growing patch of mint. 5. 11 o’clock.  The edamame is growing well. 6. Adventure.  To the top of the Gateway Arch! 7. Pattern.  Gorgeous funghi. 8. T is for.  Trainers, back from a run.  Even though I live in America, I still call them trainers rather than sneakers or tennis shoes (I don’t even play tennis, come to think of it, I don’t do much sneaking either). 9. We Live Here.  St Louis on an …

Weekly Photos 27/52 and Green.

What a lovely week, the weather was so lovely, cool (less than 80 degrees counts) and sunny.  I went to Warped Tour with my 13 year old and we had a great time, the garden is awash with green and tomatoes and flowers and we had a trip out to Shaw Nature Reserve on another delicious cool day. Of course I know we are to expect many days reaching a million degrees, but these pockets of bearable are so worth it.  It means we can get out and about and see what St Louis has to say for itself. This is what is said this week, in photos. 1.  The inflatable schedule at Warped Tour, St Louis 2.  Harvest of garlic and lavender. 3.  The ever growing sunflowers are now 6 feet tall (I measured the tallest). 4.  The Hibiscus flowers are unfurling. 5. Thistles at Shaw Nature Reserve. 6.  The Sod House at Shaw, who doesn’t want grass on the roof!? 7.  Pretty Black Eyed Susie flowers. 8.  A very dry creek, these stepping …

Weekly Photos 26/52 and Pink.

Last week was hot hot and more hot with a couple of storms thrown in.  I had one sick kid for a few days and we managed to Slip n Slide lots.  I dug up some of the garlic and it is looking good, there are some teeny tiny tomatoes growing too. 1.  Pink was the colour to find last week and I almost failed, managed to find a few though.  Part of the Color/Colour Lovers project hosted by Hula Seventy and Xanthe Berkeley. 2.  A rare, almost extinct pay phone.  I wonder if it even works? 3.  Slip n Slide in the sunlight. 4.  You didn’t think I would deprive you of a mushroom shot did you!? 5.  Itsy bitsy pine cones. I hope you had a great week last week and are looking forward to an even better one this week!  I am going to the ‘Vans Warped Tour’ concert on Wednesday with my teen….wish me luck. I will snap a few photos to share!

Weekly photos 24/52 and Color/Colour Lovers Red

Second week of the summer and all is well.  The weather is getting hot and humid which means that the water balloons will most likely be deployed this week. The lovely ladies of Hula Seventy and Xanthe Berkeley photography are hosting ‘Color/Colour Lovers’ the summer edition.  I joined in the winter project and it was amazing what you spot when you are looking for a specific colour!  Last week was red and here is what I found.  Of course you can’t have a red challenge and not visit the local fire house!  In fact all of these photos were taken locally. Be sure to pop over the Xanthe and Andrea’s blogs to see their amazing photos.   In other photo news, I snapped a few weekly photos too, which ironically all seem to be beige and green!  Apologies for the mushroom overload, but mama nature has been generous in the cool mushroom department this week. Next week there may be none (and I will be sad), so catch em while you can, that’s what I …

This week was the first of the summer holidays from school and it went pretty well, the weather was kind to us and we had a day trip out to go up the Gateway Arch in St Louis and lunched at one of the food trucks at the City Garden. Weekly Photos 22/52

This week has been a hot and steamy one, the future of the St Louis summer.  My plants are loving it though including my newest addition, five little tomato plants which I got from my friend in exchange for some edamame plants.  I love that I can trade veggie plants! Friday was the last day of school for the boys, so that is the end of 3rd and 7th grade.  Almost three months off with no real plans, I wonder what we will get up to?  Are you off for the summer?  Got plans? 1.  Flowers rained off the trees after a storm on Monday. 2.  Delicious Tortas De Aceite. 3.  An early morning shaft of sunshine. 4.  Dewy dandelion clock in the early morning sunshine. 5.  1972 in a local wall. 6.  Juneberries off our tree, maybe heading for a pie?  Or muffins? 7.  Curling garlic scapes. We are looking forward to a week of late starts, Swingball and maybe a trip up the Gateway arch in St Louis.  I hope you have a …

Weekly Photos 21/52

The garden is growing and the seeds are sprouting. I have given the Edamame a teepee to grow up and the sunflowers are 12 inches tall and hanging onto bamboo poles to direct them skywards. The surviving sweet peas also have a teepee and hopefully the birds will leave the remaining plants alone and I will have the sweet smell of my all time favourite flowers through the summer. I am enjoying my new blog and painted an idea for the title which I am not sure I will use! I had a good time practicing my brush script while doing it though. 1. Girl Fifteen gets painted 2. We found a leaf which looks like a pair of lips! 3. Chalk crossing. 4. Vintage Ladybird book. 5. Potato flower. 6. Gooseberry. 7. The last seed husk. 8. The latest summer footwear! Have a fab week, work hard and be nice (as you always are!).
