Weekly Photos 2/52 2017

I missed week one of weekly photos this year because I was deciding whether to carry on with weekly photos.  I decided, no I was not going to and it threw off my whole blogging week, so I thought I would reinstate the weeklies! 1. I spotted this Old Man’s Beard fungi on a fallen tree this week, apparently they are edible, but even if I was super sure I could eat a wild mushroom, I don’t think I could. 2. The roses on this bush are still pretty even when they are dry and crispy. 3. We had a small ice storm on Friday and lots of schools and businesses were closed.  The trees were coated in a layer of clear ice and these bracket mushrooms also had an ice coat. 4. These berries look dramatic in their frozen cluster. 5. This sculpture on the Delmar Loop looks ready for some ice! 6. Coffee sacks at Blueprint coffee in The Loop.  I had a latte and it was one of the best I have …

Weekly Photos 24/52.

1. I planted a mixed seed pack from Seedgeeks in the Spring and they are growing very nicely.  This bright red poppy is a fabulous thing! 2. I keep spotting these pretty flowers when I am out walking the dog, there is a tree full along the trail and they are all over the ground under the tree. 3. When I take the dog for a walk at 7am to try and beat the heat, I always take my mug of tea with me.  On Friday when I had finished my drink, I gathered various natural bits and bobs.  Flowers, leaves, seed pods, bark and a small branch of bamboo!  Once I got home I laid it all out to take a photo or two and do some sketches and painting.  A productive morning was had. 4-7. At the weekend we visited our friends who lives out in the sticks and I enjoyed having a poke around in their garden.  The boys got to ride on the old tractor and we made a bonfire to …

Ices Plain and Fancy where they make ice cream with liquid nitrogen as you order.  So cool (ha, see what I did there!).  I had the coffee soft serve and it was fab. A few more photos this week, some taken with my Canon Rebel and some on my iPhone 6. The sun is out today which is a wonderful thing although it is still below freezing.  I am going to plant some chili pepper seeds to …

10 Tips for taking a photo a day, every day.

I started to participate in  a ‘photo a day’ project back in September 2012,  I followed prompts from Fat Mum Slim and Hipstamatic and I used so many filters!  Good grief, enough with the filters!  But, I did it, I completed a month and then I carried on and I got into the habit of taking a photo a day.  I suppose I really ‘posted’ a photo a day, some days I take a ton of photos and some days it is only the one for my photo a day project. I settled on the Fat Mum Slim prompts, but every so often I add in a month of other prompts if I find them appealing, so I will end up with two photos posted per day!  Here are a few 365 project originators to choose from. Another year of Photo A Day complete, thanks to prompts from Fat Mum Slim for every single day of 2014.  For December I decided at the beginning of the month to make the photos all black and white.  This kind of worked, kind of didn’t!  It is rather difficult to take a ‘Red’ photo in black and white and sometimes, I just forgot. Are you doing a photo a day in 2015?  You won’t regret it, great memories, captured and shared (if you like).

An Afternoon in the Woods taken with Hipstamatic.

Do you still use Hipstamatic on your phone to take photos with an instant funky look?  Hipstamatic was one of the first photo apps I got for my phone and I still really like it.  You never quite know what you are going to get, but it usually a fun photo.   I love all the films and lenses to mess about with. I downloaded the new Dalston Hipstapak this weekend and used it to take some photos while we were exploring in the woods today.  We donned our wellies and trudged about in the undergrowth and the creek, we made a dam and picked up some old creek glass and pottery shards which have been worn smooth by the water over many years. We stood and watched a little woodpecker make his way up a tree pecking out bugs as he went. I hope you managed to get outside for a while this weekend.

Weekly Photos 36/52.

At last the weather has cooled off a little and the mornings are almost chilly and damp.  This means that we are seeing lots of turtles in the woods and lots and lots of mushrooms!  I am still pulling a handful of cherry tomatoes off the vines every day and my chili plants have started to flower, but I am not sure I will have the pleasure of any chilies now that it has turned a bit more, chilly (!).                 1.  Some rather lovely clouds, look how the lower ones have flat bottoms, like they are resting on some invisible shelf. 2.  Little mushrooms with dewy stalks. 3.  Street outlets. 4.  A gaggle of mushrooms. 5.  Sunset and party lights. 6.  The gaggle the next day. 7.  A local furniture store. I hope you had a lovely week and that the week ahead is going well.
