Through The Lens Thursday #48. Muted.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! For this week’s Through The Lens Thursday, the prompt is ‘Muted’, so I picked a photo I took on our hike at Lone Elk Park today, which has lovely muted colours.  Colours at this time of year are pretty much all muted, but also pretty, suble shades of nature. I like the cobweb and the little spider on this photo too. Next week’s prompt is ‘View’.

Four + One = Life. Weekly Photos 45/52.

1. Blue sky and orange leaves, one of the best things about this time of year. 2. I snagged some hydrangeas this week and even thought they are kind of past their prime, they are still so striking.  This book is my new favorite cookbook and I was happy to see that there are more books by the same lady which I have ordered from the library.  Hurrah for libraries! 3. These mica powders arrived this week which I am excited to be able to add to lip balms and maybe a gentle blush with a hint of shimmer.  I will be sure to let you know how they turn out. 4. It is not tennis weather  I know, but my youngest and I decided this weekend was the time to channel our inner Wimbledon.  I thought I  would wear alternative tennis attire as you can see and jeans and boots worked just fine in our friendly knock about.  We found this ball at the tennis courts which has a valuable message – Practice. Yes …

I have not taken many photos this week, but never fear, I have some to share!  I am joining in with Isabel at Nanjing Nian and linking up with other lovely people sharing their weekly photos. 1. This is an old house in our neighbourhood up for sale.  It looks like it hasn’t been touched in years, I bet it is all original inside.  Kinda cool. 2. The garden is still enjoying the warm weather, this aubergine is growing in the shape of a mitten! 3. At the weekend we caught the train into St Louis.   I love the Peabody Opera House and the array of carved faces all around the walls of the building. 4. Outside one of the local arenas is this kickboxing hare!  I can’t tell if he is about to beat someone up or run off at high speed! I hope you had a lovely weekend, did you get to see the Supermoon which was red and eclipsed?  We had a dense cloud cover here so missed the whole thing. …

One + Four = Life. Weekly photos 36/52

I am joining Isabel at Nanjing Nian in this week’s One+Four=Life project.  Four photos to represent the previous week in our world, lots of other bloggers will be linking up, so be sure to pop over and get a virtual world tour of photos! It has been a hot and humid week here, one of the hottest of the summer I think, or maybe it just seems that way to me as I am so over being sweaty and too hot. I have started a new book called ‘Fishbowl’ by Bradley Somer which is a great read and a nice pace which I am sprinting through.  It is one of those books which visits different characters in each chapter and often leaves a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter.  So I am zooming along to get see what happens to them all.  It is based on a group of people who all live in the same apartment block which does not sound like a page turner, but it is.  Not forgetting the goldfish who has …

Weekly Photos 32/52

      1.  We went to the zoo this week and had a chat with the stingrays. 2. And we chatted to the seals.  My two are almost too old for the zoo, but we passed a lovely couple of hours visiting some animals and snacking on over priced candy floss! 3. This weekend in humidity which resembled the rainforest, we went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.  These mosaic plants really fascinated me, so beautiful on the water, they look like they were swimming without moving.  It was a happy accident that the reflection of the sun popped into the shot. 4. I missed the flowers of the Sacred Lotus, but the leaves are so amazing and the pods from the flowers are beautiful too. 5. Talking of missing things, I was sad that the Chihuly glass had gone from the white arches at the gardens the past couple of times I have visited.  Now they are back!  Hurrah!  I must have photos of these beauties in all seasons as I never fail to …

One+Four=Life. Weekly Photos 19/52

For this week’s four photos, it was a hard choice and it made a nice change to have choice! Don’t you find that a week will pass and you have taken hardly any photos, yet another week, you have been a clicking demon and have no end of snaps to choose from! I have had a week of field trips, on Tuesday I went to southern Illinois to Waterloo and my friend’s new shop Philomela and Ruth. On Wednesday I went out with some friends to the Missouri Botanical Gardens and saw the blooming irises which were all amazing. They were also setting up the Lantern Festival ready for the event to start at the end of May. I think the lantern display is as impressive during the day as it would be all lit up at night. So much work goes into it all, we will be visiting again once all the lanterns are up and running later this month. Photos – 1. Wall art at ‘Philomena and Ruth’. 2. One of a gaggle …

1. I went on a Goodwill Outlet field trip with my friend (who knows the way!) on the train.  I got a few bits and bobs including some snaps of the old St Louis Armory which stands next to the Goodwill building.  Of course I am the person that stands to get photos in a rather dodgy area of the city.  I couldn’t resist this great old building and I was quick!  St Louis seems to be chock full of old impressive buildings which are left to ruin, hopefully this one will be developed without destroying it. 2. While mowing my neighbor’s front grass – yes, it is that time again, mow mow mow – I smelt the lilac before I glanced up and spotted it.  So beautiful, I finished the mow and went home to get my camera to get a snap. 3. ‘Record Store Day’ was Saturday so we headed to The Grove in St Louis, for a coffee and a wander around and while we were wandering I spotted this amazing art …
