‘I like’ Friday, a Creative Day Out.

Last Friday the library where I work was closed so I took myself on a creative day out.  I jumped on the Metro Link and headed to my favorite magazine shop to start my day.  I picked out a couple of mags and went on my way.  Along with my magazines I also had the little sketchbook which I literally made right before I left along with a few pens and a water pen filled with ink (one of my favorite things to use).   Back to the train and off to Forest Park and the St Louis Art Museum not forgetting to stop off and get a rosemary brown sugar latte (so good!) to walk across the park with. The sun was shining and the trees were in their fall colours as I walked across the park to the art museum. Once at the museum I made sure I kept my eyes and ears open.  You never know what you might hear in the galleries!  I made notes in my book and little sketches …

The end of the summer holidays is upon us, this week we have all the school registrations and supplies to check.  The weather is cooling slightly and the mornings and evenings are much more pleasant especially when the dog needs a walk and Pokemon need to be gathered! 1. Mushroom spotting this week, this pink one has the best gills! 2-4. Ted Drewes trip this weekend.  A St Louis institution and this is the first time we have been!  We won’t leave it so long before we return. 5.   Today we are enjoying slightly cooler temps and some rain.  I walked the dog in light rain this morning and we both were grateful for the relief from the scorching weather we have been having lately. Having said that we are going to see more heat for at least the rest of the week.  Sunscreen and hats always at the ready! In the meantime I am sitting on my porch writing this and listening to ‘Steve Wright in the Afternoon‘ on the BBC iPlayer. Crazy lady sitting on the porch listening to the radio! Here are some photos from the last week. 1. Some weeds I picked up along the dog walking route.  I sketched them and took this snap. 2. This leaf was almost glowing with colour as it sat on the floor of the path through the woods.  Is Autumn coming?  Not yet I don’t think! 3. We have seen some beautiful cloudy skies this week, these yellow leaves are the perfect contrast. 4. Fabulous tomatoes at Tower Grove Farmers Market here …

1. We walked to an Estate Sale locally this weekend, it was a 2 mile walk each way, but on such a lovely blue sky day, we didn’t mind.  I loved this study and look at that fantastic wallpaper. 2. On the way home from the sale we took a short detour to snap a photo of this sign.  I have admired the arrow for ages now and with this blue sky, how could I resist. 3. A flock of Grape Hyacinths at Forest Park, taken on Easter Sunday. 4. Trees on Art Hill in Forest Park. 5. St Louis Art Museum and the Grand Basin in Forest Park. 6. Lovely willow trees near a bridge in Forest Park. What a pretty weekend it was.  I hope you had a lovely week and weekend. Happy Monday x

I got a Gelli plate for Christmas and I got it out to play with this week. I tried cutting out triangles and masking off trees or mountains (depending what you see!). I used card stock, printer paper and wax deli paper and they all worked well but gave slightly different results in many good ways. I planted some seeds this week and snapped some polaroids. We went to the Ice Carnival in the Delmar Loop this weekend and spotted these magnificent lions as we walked down to the Carnival.  They are guarding City Hall and doing a fine job. Spotted at the Scientology Church on Delmar.  What if you don’t pass?  No personality?  Yikes. How was your week?  I hope it was lovely. Happy Monday!

We have never visited this park before and it looks like we might have to wait a while before we see it when it is dry.  It is both fascinating and macabre to see floods in action close up. Powder Valley park and trail was not under water, so we had a wander along the trails there. I liked the colours and movement of the creek bed here. On New Year’s Day we went to Rockwoods Reservation and walked ‘The trail through the trees’.  These icicles looked like lots of discarded plastic bags from a distance. Lots of rocky faces to be spotted in these rocks at Rockwoods Reservation. How on earth does ice form like this?  There were a few similar formations under a tree, no more ice or frost anywhere around.  It was paper thin, delicate and beautiful. End of the hike, end of the day. I hope you had a great start to 2016!  Happy New Year!
