Through The Lens Thursday #53. Celebration.

Today is the last day of 2015 and the final ‘Through the Lens Thursday’ offering.  The prompt supplied as always by the lovely Greta at Gfunkified blog was ‘Celebration’. My celebration this morning was a coffee with a waffle treat on the top. Celebrating the fact that I managed to eventually fit in a coffee after Barre class, a trip to Target for boring stuff and half price Christmas sweets, REI to refund a present, Michaels for yarn and dye and Whole Foods for New Years Eve dinner ingredients. Now I get to mess about in my art journal and wish you all a very happy, healthy new year. Happy 2016!

Through The Lens Thursday #51. Alive.

This week’s prompt is ‘alive’.  This tree is alive and it has made it through the year ready to grace our living room again. We bought it last year at this time and it has lived outside happily ready to be decorated for Christmas for the second year. We used to have an artificial tree which over the years got scrappier and more sorry looking, then last year it ended up with water in it’s storage box and ended up rather moldy.  So that was the end of that.  The intention was to buy another artificial tree, but we ended up at a tree lot with living trees rather than poor old hacked down dying trees. We all liked this one, decided to call him ‘Fat Albert’ and brought him home. I took these two photos of our Christmas tree today at the same time using different settings on my camera in the spirit of ‘Through the Lens Thursday’ which is a weekly project to practice using our DSLR cameras on the manual setting.  I …

Through the Lens Thursday #50. Packed.

Blimey, we are at week 50 already!  I found out today that this year has 53 weeks and not 52, I thought all years had 52 weeks, I thought it was the rule.  Apparently not.  There I was thinking we had two weeks left and as if by magic another one appears!  Hello week 53 and welcome to 2015. This week’s Through the Lens Thursday prompt is ‘Packed’.  Through the Lens Thursday is a year long weekly project hosted by Greta at GFunkified blog to improve our photography skills using our big girl cameras and not just the phone. I usually just snap away on the phone and I need to keep practicing my ‘proper’ camera skills. Today I made mince pies with homemade mincemeat which I made from this Jamie Oliver recipe.  I packed in the mincemeat for a nice generous filling. Now I am trying not to eat them all! I hope your Thursday is going well!

Through The Lens Thursday #49. View.

For this week’s prompt, I took a photo of my neighbor’s magnolia tree. I was hanging out the washing and noticed it budding against the blue and white sky and thought, that is a good ‘view’. I am not sure that it should be in bud in December but who am I to question nature’s ways? I messed about with the camera settings and ended up with a little bit of a washed out picture which I liked. Next week’s prompt is ‘packed’. Happy Thursday!

Through The Lens Thursday #48. Muted.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! For this week’s Through The Lens Thursday, the prompt is ‘Muted’, so I picked a photo I took on our hike at Lone Elk Park today, which has lovely muted colours.  Colours at this time of year are pretty much all muted, but also pretty, suble shades of nature. I like the cobweb and the little spider on this photo too. Next week’s prompt is ‘View’.

Through The Lens Thursday #47. Cut.

Ironically I took this photo nice and early when I was cutting down and pulling out the last of my tomatoes, and now I am posting late! You might have noticed the change in surroundings around here. I have moved (or rather am moving, so excuse the empty boxes and bare walls) blog house back to my original blog, here at CatsEatDogs. All of my old posts and bits and bobs are here too, so feel free to have a look around and if you want some old old posts, I started this blog in 2012 so there is lots to look at! So I am sneaking in late with Through The Lens Thursday, sorry Greta! Hopefully normal posting will resume next week when the prompt is ‘Muted’ and it is my birthday! Whoo hoo! I love birthday’s, don’t you!

Through the Lens Thursday #46. Smile.

This doll is almost the same age as me, she was a birthday present from my Grandma and Grandad when I was two.  Her skin has changed colour a little bit over the years and she has new hair, but apart from that she is intact and as she was in 1971 when I got her. Her smile is still enigmatic even though her face looks like she has just completed a mud run. My doll Jenny is the subject of this week’s Through The Lens Thursday for the ‘smile’ prompt.  Next week is ‘cut’. Happy Thursday.

Through The Lens Thursday #45. Bright.

We have a teeny tiny Dogwood tree in our front garden which I have nearly mowed down to the ground on more than one occasion! Thankfully I missed it every time and it is growing slowly but surely.  This year it has a little collection of leaves which have turned a fabulous orange pink for the autumn. A little bright beacon shining from my front lawn, some trees in the autumn see to be their own light source and this is one of them. A perfect example of ‘bright’ for this week’s Through The Lens Thursday.  Next week is ‘Smile’. Happy Thursday!

Through The Lens Thursday #43. Spicy.

This week has been like summer here in the Mid West!  It got to 92 degrees yesterday and I am browsing boots online while wearing sandals. Last week we had a couple of nights of frost, I know, the weather here is bonkers!  My chili plants are in pots so I hauled them all into the basement to hide out until the temps crept back up.  They seemed to be happy with the arrangement and are growing and blooming all over the place.  They had better hurry up as winter is just around the corner and the weather here can turn on a dime.  I deliberately planted them in pots this year so that I can move them into the basement and hopefully I will get some chilis from these flowers. The top picture is a Santaka Hot Asian chili and the bottom is an Ancho chili, so the Santaka will turn a vibrant red and the Ancho has some growing ahead of it as this is a tiny new chili.  Once the chiles ripen, …
