Weekly Photos 52/52

Jelly Babies!  Not easy to get hold of here, but we managed to get the teen a massive tub of them.  I also found this article on the BBC about the sweet treats we love to bite the heads off. A favourite Christmas present was the ‘Adventure’ G.I. Joe complete with Yeti! I think they are having a playful wrestle in this picture… A pile of presents I received!  Yay!  I love the Jamie cookbook and I am so happy to be a proud owner.  I like to make notes in my cookbooks which I don’t think the library would approve of! I also got some sketchbooks with kraft paper inside which will make a nice change from the usual white paper.  My new Micron pens are tucked inside this fab deer pencil case (I think it is a make up bag, but I have reallocated it). One of my most favourite Christmas treats is fresh roast chestnuts.  I like to mash them up and make a sauce with them, although I can quite …

One+Four=Life. Weekly Photos 49/52.

Frosty mornings are upon us and last week was chock full of them.  By the afternoon it is usually milder though when the sun has been out all day.  I like the crunchy mornings with hats and gloves and a brisk walk to school. At the weekend we went to the Farmer’s Market at Schlafly Brewery and picked up some lovely mushrooms from Ozark Forest Mushroom farm. These are heading for a noodle soup. I also bought some dried serrano chili peppers from them which I will throw into soups and roasting veg. This photo just cracks me up!  My cousin sent it to my now 11 year old for his birthday, it is hilarious!  A balloon in the shape of a bull.  Ha! These cakes were for the birthday boy this weekend.  I used this feature from Frankie magazine as inspiration.  I used vanilla cake for the ‘bun’ and brownie for the ‘burger!  The ‘lettuce’ is green taffy rolled flat and the ‘ketchup’ is red icing. Simple and effective, just how I like things …

Six Word Saturday

I am aware that it is February and still winter, but I keep seeing Instagrams of flowers and signs of Spring and I am feeling the need for some Springtime! I know, I know, I will be complaining that I am too hot in about 6 months. Got a Six Word Saturday? Share in the comments or pop it on Instagram.

Snow days

Second snow day making it a four day weekend! I hope that turns out to be a good thing and not a cabin fever crazy thing. Just in case you ever need a refreshing cup of snow!  It took from about 10am until 3pm to fill the mugs.  They make good snow castles. The snow came yesterday and is hanging around even though we have had none today. The sun has not graced us with it’s presence, so there is not much ice melting going on, more ice forming. We have ended up with a snow pie effect, crusty on the top and soft underneath which rather confused Pablo this morning. The seconds between him taking a step and his paw breaking through the snow pie crust blew his little brain. He even seemed to spread his little paws out as much as possible to make little doggy webbed feet to enable him to walk on the snow. Didn’t work. It was still a case of step – pause – sink – step – pause …

Art Dharling

A trip out with friends is always a joy, just us, no kids. We went to Laumeier Sculpture Park not far from us in St Louis. There are lots of great places to visit here and most are free, Laumeier is one of them. The sculptures are all striking and the place was empty, so I got lots of snaps with no extra people in them! The day started cloudy and of course I have to take a ton of photos and I prefer a blue sky.  Never fear,  as we got there,  the sun came out and I couldn’t have asked for a prettier sky.  A chilly day with a magnificent blue sky, just what I like!  I prefer the cold to the heat, a scarf in the winter sunshine is ideal.  St Louis summers are a hot humid sweaty affair which I would like to avoid.  At least the houseplants like the summer on the porch I suppose. Do you like day trips?  Where do you go?  Any recommendations?  Do you prefer Summer …
