Weekly Photos 43/52 2014

1.  Mushrooms are few and far between at the minute, so I was happy to see this bunch nestled in an old fallen tree. 2.  There was a partial eclipse of the sun this week, but it was around sunset, so the sun was disappearing as it got eclipsed and it was cloudy too!  So, all I managed to glimpse was a very pretty sunset with a partially eclipsed sun behind some clouds! 3.  Our local YMCA has a Halloween ‘Spooktacular’ every year and the kids get to go in a canoe and fish a pumpkin out of the diving well of the pool.  I love the colour of the pumpkins against the water. 4.  The old Shoe International Company building in St Louis city, looking good against the blue October sky and with the yellow tree too. 5.  We picked up a vintage postcard and this is what is said on the back.  I think all trips should be ‘swell’ and ‘elegant’. 6.  Art on Cherokee St in St Louis. We had a good …

A Day Out at Delmar Loop and Rocket Fizz

Throughout the summer break we have been out and about in the local area and this week was no exception.  It is sometimes a challenge to find something that both boys want to do now they are 9 and 13 years old, but a trip to the Delmar Loop including Rocket Fizz was something everyone agreed on. We caught the Metro Link train over there in the morning to try and beat the heat a little.  This didn’t work as the humidity was already making the air thick and hot, but we had a candy and soda shop to visit, so no-one cared about being too hot (okay, I might have moaned a little bit). On the way along the Loop we passed a few cool signs, so I had to take a couple of snaps!  I love the peacock sign and the man soaring into the sky in his fancy tuxedo was a must! We headed into Rocket Fizz and I for one was happy for a spot of air conditioning!  It was ‘Taste …

Weekly Photos 27/52 and Green.

What a lovely week, the weather was so lovely, cool (less than 80 degrees counts) and sunny.  I went to Warped Tour with my 13 year old and we had a great time, the garden is awash with green and tomatoes and flowers and we had a trip out to Shaw Nature Reserve on another delicious cool day. Of course I know we are to expect many days reaching a million degrees, but these pockets of bearable are so worth it.  It means we can get out and about and see what St Louis has to say for itself. This is what is said this week, in photos. 1.  The inflatable schedule at Warped Tour, St Louis 2.  Harvest of garlic and lavender. 3.  The ever growing sunflowers are now 6 feet tall (I measured the tallest). 4.  The Hibiscus flowers are unfurling. 5. Thistles at Shaw Nature Reserve. 6.  The Sod House at Shaw, who doesn’t want grass on the roof!? 7.  Pretty Black Eyed Susie flowers. 8.  A very dry creek, these stepping …

Six Word Saturday

We went to Shaw Nature Reserve today and the weather was cool, the sun was shady and the flowers were out. I snapped lots of photos and this one became this week’s Six Word Saturday. If you want to make a Six Word Saturday, snap a photo and write over it using an app like Rhonna Designs (the one I used here), A Beautiful Mess, Over, Phonto or Little Moments to name a few.  This font in Rhonna Designs is one of my current favourites. Once you have your pic and words (six please), share on your blog or on Instagram using #SixWordSaturday.  I will come and see them and smile a great big smile! Yay. Happy Weekend.

Six Word Saturday

Today was a Metro link day, we had a few things to do, so off we went, snapping a quickie of the track as we crossed to the platform. Do you have good public transport where you live?  It is not bad here but most people drive.  I don’t drive so I catch the Metro a fair amount of the time. Want to join in with Six Word Saturday?  Leave me a comment or join on Instagram using the hashtag sixwordsaturday.  My Insta name is @catseatdogsmakes if you want to come and find me. Happy Weekend.

This week was the first of the summer holidays from school and it went pretty well, the weather was kind to us and we had a day trip out to go up the Gateway Arch in St Louis and lunched at one of the food trucks at the City Garden. Today is lovely and cool, but alas it won’t last, so we are enjoying it while we can. 1. Sketchbooks for sketching and scribbling. 2. Breakfast in the city before we visited the arch. 3.  The 250 years of St Louis cake outside the old Basilica. 4.  Cake at the Old Courthouse. 5.  The arch cake. 6.  The arch and some lovely clouds. 7.  Look there’s me at the base of the arch. 8.  We saw lots of cakes, this one is at the fountain on the other side of the Old Courthouse. 9.  Love this pink suit at the City Garden. 10. Photo a Day May 2014

May saw my eldest turn into a teenager,  a trip to the zoo with school, the weather got hotter and hotter and school finished for the summer. Here are the photos I took as part of the Fat Mum Slim Photo a Day project. June has started, but it is not to late to join in.  You know you are tempted!  Come on, it’s a fun project and I love to see the whole month of photos all together, like this… 1.  Begins with J… A custom necklace for my good friend. 2. Snack. 3. Collection.  Shelves of vintage cameras at a local antique shop. 4. Us. 5. 4pm.  I was at school and spotted Mr Y’s art project on display.  Clay doughnut anyone? 6. From Down Low. 7. Weekly photos 17/52

It has been a week of sunshine, a school concert, seed planting and a new shower!  We can’t use it yet because it would be a wet disaster, but when the bathroom is tiled, it will be the best! There are flowers everywhere I look, from dandelions to flocks of daffodils, all so pretty! We dragged out the Swingball which is in desperate need of a new ball at the end of it’s string!  The dog has nearly bitten our’s in half.  We can still whack it, but I am afraid it will fly into two pieces very soon. I caught these reflections on a local bridge when I was getting some photos for Through the Lens Thursday this week. To the Middle School band concert we go.  I am wearing my lovely new Bohemian Trader‘s scarf which I love so much! A tree on a hill to finish this week’s collection. Do you have exciting plans this week?  I have a card to make for a card exchange (post coming, got to make …

Weekly Photos 13/52

A chilly Spring break was had last week, we had a couple of trips out around St Louis and a nice time was had.  We came across a couple more 250 year Birthday cakes for St Louis, which really is a baby city age!  I do like all the cakes though, good idea.  I wonder how many we will see?  So far we have clocked about 8!  There will be 250 cakes in total by the end of the year all over St Louis and the surrounding area to celebrate 250 years of St Louis. We caught the train into the city and went to the Soldier’s Memorial and visited the City Museum.  The highlight of the trip for me was the hippo atop a neighbouring building and the life-size manatee sculpture also in a neighbouring building.  The manatee is suspended from a ceiling and can be seen through very dirty city windows, which is my excuse for the bad photo.  I had to photo him though, …

Weekly photos 10/52 and Living Arrows

I am a day late with the weekly round up this week because yesterday was ‘Ten on the 10th’ day.  Never fear though, here is the weekly collective from last week.  It snowed on Monday and we had a snow day off school which is so strange to think about now we are looking at near 80 degrees today.  All seasons in one week! Blue was the colour of the week  and it was the last in the #colorcolour series.  Here is my Blue selection. I made pretzel rolls to have with hot dogs for dinner which were a hit and fun to make.  I used the A Beautiful Mess recipe which I have used a few times and it has not failed me yet. The school art show was this week too and I got a little photo of Mr Y’s ‘Inside my Head’ piece. I went into St Louis for a class headed up by the lovely Lindsay of Heartland Underdog, met some lovely local bloggers and got some snaps of some city …
