Through The Lens Thursday #42. From the Ground.

For this week’s Through The Lens Thursday prompt I decided to take some photos ‘From the Ground’ looking up and ‘From the Ground’ looking along the aforementioned ground. This tree has been gradually getting more and more yellow for the past couple of weeks and as it is the only tree which is changing colour so dramatically in it’s area, it is positively glowing.  As we pop out of the woods on our way to school, it almost creates it’s own light as we walk under it. So, I got down to the ground and rested my camera in the leaves pointing up, and snapped a few pictures of our lovely glowing tree.  The sun came out today after a week’s absence, so that helped too. I took this photo on the way back to the Metro Link train station after picking up some magazines from the international newsagent.  ‘Frankie’ issue 61 (yes we are two behind, it’s a scandal!) and ‘Kerrang!’ magazine for my teen, in case you are interested in my magazine choice. …

Through the Lens Thursday #41 Deception

Well this was a hard one.  Deception.  Not really sure what to photo for it.  So I took myself out in the gloom and the rain to see what I could see. I decided that the arrows on the trail could be deceptive.  I mean, which way to go?  Follow or not?  Why so many arrows? The reflections on the black path looked a little eerie and dark, invoking the idea of possible deception. Sometimes reflections of the trees in puddles make it look like they go on forever, downwards.  Deceptive.  Be careful not to step in those puddles…   I put some film into my Minolta 35mm camera this week and I am planning to use that on manual too, so I will continue to learn as I shoot some film.  There are a couple of lenses with it too, so I am looking forward to using them.  The first thing I will learn is to plan the photo and not take a bazillion photos to get one shot.  I see note taking …

Sparkle. Through The Lens Thursday #40.

Today I had lost my sparkle big time. You know when you just can’t be bothered? Wonder why you are bothering?  Why am I doing this why am I doing that? What should I be doing? Blah blah blah. I took a few photos for the sparkle prompt and they were all a bit rubbish. Why bother? Actually,  I did think ‘why am I doing this project?’  I am at week 40 and I have not missed a single Through The Lens Thursday, but why? I might be getting a bit better at using my camera but I am really not understanding all those numbers.  What do they all mean and how is it that they can create a sharp, wonderful shot or destroy it by adding a distinctly non artistic blur. So, I took myself off to Pilates which is one of the toughest exercise classes I take and believe me, I don’t bother with easy workouts. The weather looked like it might produce something biblical and I almost turned around and went home …

Through The Lens Thursday 39. Away.

For this week’s Through the Lens Thursday our fearless leaders from GFunkified and Writing Wishing blogs prompted us to take photos around the theme – away. So I grabbed my vintage luggage and took a pretend ‘going away’ photo.  I would love to use these cases to travel, at the minute they have wool (big Samsonite) and buttons on cards (mushrooms) in them! While I was getting my settings sorted on my camera, I noticed the blimp way up in the sky, pretty far away.  Double ‘away’ whammy this week.  I feel like a bit of an over achiever!  Ha. Are you participating in any challenges this year?  Photography or otherwise.  How is it going?  We are into the last third of the year, so if you are still keeping up with your challenge I applaud you.  It can be pretty hard to keep momentum even with a weekly challenge such as this. I also do a photo a day with Fat Mum Slim‘s prompts and I have got into such a habit with it, …

Through The Lens Thursday 38. Tall.

Tall.  I found a tall tree. Predictable, I know, but I quite like the focus spot on the bark and the bright tree tops in the distance. Thanks to Greta at Gfunkified and Alison of Writing Wishing for coming up with Through The Lens Thursday and many congratulations to Alison on the birth of her beautiful twins. Next week’s prompt is ‘Away’.  Happy Thursday!

Through The Lens Thursday 35. Texture.

This week in the world of Through The Lens Thursday, the prompt is texture.  I was all set to head into the woods ready to throw myself onto the damp leafy path to catch a photo of a newly grown mushroom or get a shot of some interesting tree bark.  Then I opened my back door to check on the tomatoes and there was our only surviving sunflower gently turning to seed to feed the pretty yellow bird which likes to sit on the flower and have a snack. What beautiful texture right here, the flowers in the middle of the flower, the drying petals and the forming seeds.  We will harvest some seeds when they are ready and hopefully have a lovely yellow sunflower crop next summer. Have you been growing this summer or are you planning to grow (depending on which season you are heading into)?  I have kale and beetroot seedlings peeking through for a lovely Fall crop.

Through The Lens Thursday 34. Green.

For Through the Lens Thursday this week, the prompt is ‘Green’, so a nice easy one to find.  I wandered into the rain drenched garden (big big storms last night) and snapped a few green items.  The green tomatoes are turning red very kindly as they are ripening just slowly enough that we haven’t had to make tomato based food for a week straight, then no more.  These are cherry tomato plants and I pick 3 or 4 a day which usually get eaten right off the plant or popped in a salad or onto a pizza.  I still have plants full of tomatoes which the squirrels and groundhogs are sharing nicely, so we can look forward to homegrown tomatoes for the rest of the summer! I like the little droplet on this photo as the plants are just drying from all the rain. Thanks as always to Greta at Gfunkified and Alison at Writing Wishing for devising Through the Lens Thursday and helping us all improve our photo skills. Next week is Texture, so that will …

Through The Lens Thursday 33. Lemon.

I had to go and check the list of prompts for this week’s Through the Lens Thursday photo.  Lemon?  Are you sure?  Lemon?  An actual lemon?  The colour lemon?  A lemon recipe? Feeling like a lemon? Yes, I am sure,  and all of the above will do just fine. I decided to dig out a few lemon recipes from my 1970’s Betty Crocker Recipe Card Library and use an actual real life lemon. Lemon and dappled sunlight, what a lovely combination. Happy Thursday!
